Jeff Lebby Provides Update On Mississippi State QB Kamario Taylor Ahead Of LSU Game

Mississippi State could be without starting quarterback Kamario Taylor when the Bulldogs travel to Baton Rouge to face LSU on Saturday.
Taylor has been dealing with a right-leg injury since the Bulldogs' game against Missouri on September 26. He played through the injury against Alabama the following week but left the game in the fourth quarter and was later spotted wearing a walking boot.
Mississippi State head coach Jeff Lebby was asked about Taylor's status during his Monday press conference but didn't offer much of an update.
"We will let the availability report speak to that," Lebby said.
Lebby was also asked who would start at quarterback if Taylor couldn't play against LSU.
"Right now the focus is on getting him ready to play and then having the ability to continue to create the depth in the room," Lebby said.
"Billy and A.J. obviously are the two guys that have been competing since day one in fall camp and really last spring. So those guys obviously have the ability to get work if one wasn't ready to roll."
Lebby was referring to backup quarterbacks Billy Puckett and AJ Swann, who could be called upon if Taylor isn't available. Swann spent the 2024 season at LSU as a backup to Garrett Nussmeier but attempted only four passes during his time with the Tigers.
We should get a better idea of Taylor's availability when the first SEC injury report comes out Wednesday evening.
The Bulldogs are coming off a bye week before they travel to Baton Rouge this weekend to face LSU at Tiger Stadium. Kickoff is at 11 am CT on ESPN.
