Putin has delusions that he is the second coming of Peter the Great. He has done massive harm to his own nation when it could have been a very successful gas station.
Ukraine wanted no part of Russia. The want to be part of the EU where they see success and prosperity in their future.
Ukraine has great historical animosity against Russia from the millions Stalin murdered and starved to death in the 1930's and long before that when Moscow's princes betrayed them to the Mongols.

If that's what Trump is referring to, I wish he would just say that: "Given the Neocon meddling it's understandable that Russia is concerned about Ukraine for security purposes. Ending the war, recognizing Russia's territorial claims according to the current battle lines is equitable...and probably the only solution possible for the foreseeable future. If Ukraine doesn't accept that solution, the US will withdraw all support including intelligence sharing."

I’m putting my money on a deep state leftist operation for Ukraine to start the war, make it look like Putin did it, so we could flow hundreds of billions of dollars into Ukraine that could be laundered back into democrat coffers here in the US.

I get the issues people and Trump have with Ukraine, I really do. But for the life of me, I just don’t understand why Putin is the one guy that Trump just will not go against in anything.

I don't think so. We CAN completely divorce ourselves from any involvement, including intelligence sharing and sanctions on Russia.
Personally, I'm in favor of that. If the Europeans want to support Ukraine's (completely righteous) fight against Russia, let them do it.
