I’d like to see many of them move their factories to Mexico. They have Cheap labor, provides jobs to Mexico so it helps to stop the need for illegal immigration. Much closer to home for both ourselves and Canada. Cheaper and quicker transport of goods versus coming form China.

Edit: would love to see them all move back to US, but that’s not practical for all industries.

Why should they care if the American consumer doesn't, seriously.

If you really want goods made in the USA then pay the price and buy them, the manufacturers only do what the consumer demands.

I feel the same way about owning land. Every time I pay real estate taxes I realize that I really don't own it. I rent it.

U.S. companies are finding out they don't own their own factories in China. When they tried to export THEIR medical equipment, the Chinese government stopped them:

China lied about human to human transmission until late January. Just long enough for them to hoard supplies.

I’m taking it this comes at the same time they had Chinese nationals buying up tons of these same items in countries like the US and Australia for export back to China.

A reckoning will come at some point. It will not go well for China.

Most companies at one point were probably already producing in the US. But then they get tired of being millionaires, want to become billionaires. So they decide to produce it for even cheaper, to improve their profit margin. It has nothing to do with that it actually costs to make. It has everything to do with lining their pocket with as much money as possible.

They didn’t lose any money by China cutting off their supply, China still paid them for it. USA just need to put massive tariffs on all products coming into the USA, that will be the only solution. Unless we make laws that say all medicine, ppe, etc. must be manufactured and sold in the USA.

Companies know they don't own but that's why they are in China. What they own is the order.
Too much fixed and labor costs in the U§A.

Ban American companies from manufacturing in China. They have 6 months to find alternate options.

People keep saying this, but it was moved to China because everyone insisted on cheaper and cheaper options.

The consumer did this, the consumer does everything, when people stop buying it or supporting American made exclusively, that is what we will see. That is how the market works.

^Sure to be a popular post.

Note also that we invoked DPA to prevent mask/glove exports from the US as well. Last week.

With communists, expect communism eh?

Yeah, never sign or accept anything in a language you can’t understand.

There are enough stories out there of people getting tattoos reading “Tiny” or “Insert General Tso’s chicken” when they asked for something like “badass” or “princess” in foreign script.

FACT!
And this is exactly why the Federal government is supposed to charge TARIFFS instead of domestic taxes such as the Income Tax.

"From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Tariffs in United States history)

The tariff history of the United States spans from 1789 to present. The first tariff law passed by the U.S. Congress, acting under the then-recently ratified Constitution, was the Tariff of 1789. Its purpose was to generate revenue for the federal government (to run the government and to pay the interest on its debt), and also to act as a protective barrier around newly starting domestic industries.[1] An import tax set by tariff rates was collected by treasury agents before goods could be unloaded at U.S. ports.

Tariffs have historically served a key role in the nation's foreign trade policy and as a source of federal income. Tariffs were the greatest (approaching 95% at times) source of federal revenue until the federal income tax began after 1913. For well over a century the federal government was largely financed by tariffs averaging about 20% on foreign imports.

Tariffs were the main source of all Federal revenue from 1790 to 1914. At the end of the American Civil War in 1865 about 63% of Federal income was generated by the excise taxes, which exceeded the 25.4% generated by tariffs. In 1915 during World War I tariffs generated only 30.1% of revenues. Since 1935 tariff income has continued to be a declining percentage of Federal tax income."
