In his press gaggle today (still no press secretary), President Trump answered "immediately after the election" to questions about timing of both:

- the ending of the Iran war, and
- when gas prices will go down (he said he would get them below $2).

The timing seemed awfully specific...and convenient. Maybe it was just campaign bullshite: "don't blame Republicans for gas prices and vote against us for my policies...they will come down immediately after the midterms."

Who knows?

He also said Putin and Zelensky hating each other are why that war is continuing.

If you want to hear the President's answers, the event lasted just over 7 minutes...

None of that will happen. More empty promises and another endless Middle Eastern War.

There’s lots of folks on this board who believe every single word trump says. Some of them even know what he means when he isn’t clear or speaks sarcastically.

They get real triggered when you doubt him.

FWIW his comments are saying Iran will be willing to end the war after midterms because they’re trying to use the midterms now as leverage

The IRGC will have zero leverage after the mid-terms. They are just hanging by the thread POTUS Trump has given them, praying to allah the democrats will deliver for the muslim terrorists.

I'm the furthest thing from gullible. I am astounded that anyone accepts what President Trump says without any confirmation from an independent source.

The way he kept repeating "right after the elections" was ballsy even for President Trump. I grew up when we had a press corps that would have challenged him on that.

This sounded like something Stephen Miller came up with in the middle of the night:

"Hmmmm....gas prices are kicking our arse with independent voters. How do we get around that? I know...get them to ignore common sense and promise that gas prices will come down IMMEDIATELY after the election. For fun, lie to them and tell them that the price will drop under $2."

I look back on my grandfather's stories about the depression and fighting in ww2. Thank God he didn't live to endure the misery of higher gas prices.

That's fair. Trump should stress that more (if he only had a press secretary:)). He should say, "The war will end immediately after midterms IF Republicans retain both the Senate and the House."

Personally, I don't think the IRGC will surrender without us putting boots on the ground, but I hope the President is right.

Trump sounds like any other crappy politician with those answers. His pride won’t let him admit that this conflict Iran hasn’t gone as planned. We may not be “losing” but in February he never expected us to be still he where we are in September.

His point is that Iran is holding out to hurt the Republicans in the mid-terms, and once they are over, Iran will cool down.

Why are we negotiating an end to the war with them if they’re completely defeated militarily and we control the Strait?
