Which is exactly why the Brits and Frenchies may feel stupid enough to try something.

It's why they won't. They know they have the backing of NATO, but they would need to initially confront the Russians on their own. Their government won't even confront some skinny Ethiopians illegally crossing into their country.

The British Navy is much more capable, albeit smaller, than the Russian Navy.

There is no functioning british navy. They have all been in drydock for repairs for years.

The French and Brits mobilizing their Navies over this is insanity.
It seems the British Navy (what there is of it) was already involved, and that was likely a complicating factor.

Grok: What Happened

On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, around 11:40 a.m. local time, the Russian frigate Admiral Grigorovich (a Project 11356M-class ship from the Black Sea Fleet) fired warning shots (reportedly small arms) near a UK-registered civilian yacht in the English Channel, about 20 nautical miles south of the Isle of Wight (between the Isle of Wight and Normandy, outside UK territorial waters).

The yacht reportedly came close (accounts vary: ~150–500 yards / ~140–460 meters) to the Russian warship.

The Russian ship claims it tried radio warnings, flares, and signals first, but the yacht did not alter course (some reports mention foggy conditions).
Warning shots were fired to avoid a potential collision; no injuries or damage to the yacht were reported. The yacht continued on its way.

The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) is investigating the reports from the yacht. The Royal Navy patrol vessel HMS Mersey (or similar) was already shadowing/monitoring the Grigorovich at the time, as is routine for Russian warships transiting the Channel. French authorities were also involved/alerted.

Russia's side (via defence ministry statements) frames it as standard procedure for a warship to warn off a vessel on a collision course, done "in strict accordance with international shipping regulations."

The Royal Navy has become a joke.

Remember last week when the entirety of their Defense ministry resigned and the MSM told you it didn’t mean what it meant. Off topic, but I can’t get enough of our POTUS with a subtle hint to Starmer to frick off we ain’t got your back.

The Russian Navy has over 300 ships. The British Navy has 65 -70 at the most generous end of operational ships and the French Navy has around 150 operational ships with most ships in both navies used support purposes not direct combat. It isn’t 1940 anymore

He is just making it up at this point. The Royal Navy has about 1/10 the size of US Navy personnel at the most generous end of numbers for the Brits. The US Navy has about 300 active ships with over 350k Navy personnel. Apparently the Brits can operate a Navy half the size of the US’ fleet with 1/10 the personnel and a fraction of the budget

I saw something earlier today, I think on X, it was the head general of the German airforce talking shite about being ready and able to take on Russia in a moments notice.
I've said this over and over, we need to get out of NATO. Those powerless fricks are desperate to draw the US into a war with Russia by way of the NATO treaty(article 5 or whatever).
Trump is stupid to allow the US to be in this position.

Trump is the only President since NATO was formed to question the role and commitment of most NATO members. What are talking about?

The wild thing is that I have seen more than one so called expert claim that the US instigated the Ukrainian war and that we are planning to leave NATO and let the Europeans deal with OUR mess alone. They claim we did this so we can make money selling them arms. People just make shite up and spread it with no factual, supporting evidence now.

What i 'are' talking about is it's not enough to question the commitment of NATO members. Trump did that his first term. Europe has been fricking us over for decades.
How do you think they can afford all their social programs?? It's due to the money they DON'T spend on their military.
The purpose NATO was created for no longer exists. The reason Trump can't/won't pull out is political. The fricking MIC would lose profits from the weapons they make and send to NATO countries paid for by OUR tax dollars.
