The UK is slowly becoming a third world country.
I worked/drank a lot with a tech rep from England. He would go on about how they ruled the world. We had some outdated equipment that used Imperial measurements. Everything else was metric based.
Engineers from Nigeria and India would always thank him for the English language.

People like to get after the French because they surrendered during WWII after being outflanked and encircled by the Germans. But their navy is first rate. Historically, the French are a pretty militaristic nation.
