Apparently it was a sailboat. A fairly large one and it got within 500 meters of the Russian vessel. First they tried audible signals and when that was ignored, fired shots.

What did they “mobilize” a 50 year old destroyer and 1980’s era cruiser? Lol the entire premise is idiotic. They couldn’t defeat Russia in a 15 minute war

The British Navy is much more capable, albeit smaller, than the Russian Navy. The British and French Navies combined are definitely more capable than the Russian Navy.

Lots of bluster, nothing will come of it. The Brits and French are a far cry from their naval heydays and Russia can't handle Ukraine so taking on the whole of NATO at the same time would be the end of Putin's regime and he knows it.

Its just dramatic phrasing.
The RN already had two vessels shadowing the Russian ship, as they do every single time a Russian vessel transits the channel.
