Still doesn't give reason to chase him down. Call the police. Stand watch on your property if you need to, but chasing someone down in the street and shooting them makes you no better than the lawless culcha you are "fighting against"

I don't so much anymore, but when I was living on a busy highway, I used to drive to more suburban style neighborhoods to run or ride my bike. My mom still does this regularly.

Out on a public street and no evidence he was armed - merely brandishing the weapon likely justifies his act in rushing them, particularly boxed in between 2 vehicles.

It is an individual-level equivalent of war - once it starts, you have no idea how it is going to end.
