Man Charged with Murder in Teen’s Death - Southern Illinois

According to Saline County court records, 41 year-old Justin D. Maloney of Raleigh is facing three first degree murder charges.
The charges stem from an incident Wednesday night on Raleigh Chapel Road in Raleigh. A juvenile was transported from the scene and later died from their injuries.
The victim was identified as Nathaniel Potts, a sophomore at Eldorado High School. Saline County Sheriff Whipper Johnson previously said Illinois State Police were asked to lead the investigation because the home involved is owned by a family member of a county official who was not involved in the incident.
Court records show Maloney made an initial court appearance Friday morning in Saline County Court. Prosecutors also filed a petition for pretrial detention. A detention hearing has been scheduled for May 28.
Illinois State Police have not yet released additional details surrounding the investigation. The Swinford Media Group has reached out to ISP for more information regarding the investigation.
