Yet it is still the economic engine of the whole state.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis Orleans Parish has 3rd highest GDP in Louisiana. East Baton Rouge is first and Jefferson is second.
I doubt Orleans Parish has been first since the early 20th Century.

And the gap is getting wider by the day

Allowing an indictment of the AG actively antagonizes the state officials at a time when N.O. is in desperate straits. Moreno cancels the bond hearing because after the indictment, nobody is going to give N.O.money. That's actively sabotaging your own best interests.
I think there's about a 75% chance you're right. Still a 25% chance she's so dumb that she never connected the dots to understand the potential fallout from the indictment.

She will continue to ignore the fact that EBR has passed Orleans as the economic engine of Louisiana. It doesn’t fit her emotional narrative

The NO Metro area is most important to the State especially if you include the Northshore. BR and New Orleans metro areas should really function as one region It is a shame that Orleans Parish is run by incompetent leftists. If Orleans had serious business minded leadership the whole state would be better off

The letters sent by the AG were clearly out of bounds…
I think you are wrong, but it doesn’t matter. If Jeff Landry or Liz Merrill told Helena Moreno to go frick herself via a billboard, she should just ignore it.
There is nothing to gain for the mayor of a broke, shite-hole city to get in a pissing match with the Governor or AG.

NOLA Metro is @109 billion GDP
Greater Baton Rouge is @74 billion GDP.
That’s over half of the States 327 Billion GDP.

multiple sources - google GDP e.b.r versus Orleans Or Wikipedia
Nah. Was hoping for a legit source that is tracking consistently. When I looked the ones I am familiar with had gaps or entering 2023/24

New Orleans is a cesspool and a cancerous tumor on the whole state of Louisiana.
Plaza Tower, 6 flags, naval support facility, Charity hospital all rotting away just like the POS city. Nola can't even staff a full police department. The state has to send in state troopers and Trump had to send the the NG. I wonder what's going to be Nola's next screw up before the end of 2026?

close the port, French Quarter, cancel Mardi Gras, JazzFest and French Quarter Fest and really teach New Orleans a lesson.
All of these things are about to see massive cuts because organizers are about to really start feeling the pinch when budget cuts start looming. The trickle down effect will be brutal.

can you come up with any possible reasons the city might make that request?
It is a failed city. That's why.

I can’t stand the bs in Nola but even Landry knows no one in this country or international is coming to LA as a tourist (that helps economically) for anything outside the Nola offerings.
Posted on 7/10/26 at 6:39 am to RIPMachoMan
Tourism is volatile and is mostly comprised of low paying jobs. Landry (the state) having to make the state trooper precinct permanent because of NOLA’s incompetence is kind of the point.

And I agree. Landry should call a special session and pass every possible statute not requiring constitutional amendment to bring them to heel.

I still can’t fathom which moron in the administration advised the Queen that this was a good idea

If Cubbies is anything close to representative of the average New Orleanian the FO stage will be fascinating to watch.

The mayor did not indict the AG. I have no doubt that she knew nothing about it, and was probably horrified when she heard about it, because she knew what it would mean. Furthermore, she has no power to stop it.
I want the grand jury members NAMED. They are clearly a collection of the stupidest, most shortsighted people on the planet.
Posted on 7/10/26 at 9:22 am to Slippy
Everybody in the State knew about it due to the illegal leaks. Which is one of the grounds for quashing it. She certainly did not try to stop it, or issue any denunciation after the fact.
