New Orleans is broke - going the payday loan route

New Orleans is losing revenue because all of the smart people are leaving.
Their bond rating is absolute crap, so they can't get any financing.
Now they're selling future income for an infusion of cash, which we all know will be pissed away through fraud, corruption, and incompetence.
This will likely accelerate the demise of a once wonderful city.

It hasn't been a wonderful city since about 1978

I’ve always wanted to visit NO but all the crime stories keep me away.

Moreno said the money would be set aside strictly for emergencies, not for day-to-day operations or to bring furloughed workers back.
Riiiiiiight. These politicians will never let that money set there and not be spent on some BS.

It's a short-term fix for a long-term problem. If they use the time bought with this money to cut enough spending to balance the budget going forward, it could be a good idea. If they use it to just keep current funding items and levels, then they are digging a deeper fiscal hole.

It’s been third world for quite a while.

Batimorleans in their future

Seems pretty shady to me.
What is Caesar's folds and decides to close?
Is this even legal for a city government to do this ?

Wanna see what this country will look like if America hands power back to the mafia democrats? Take a close look at the financial tsunami that is New Orleans.
The mafia democrats - are equal oppertunity thieves. They steal everything from everyone. They just got more sophisticated in their thievery - they let Somalis, Romanians, Illegal Aliens and other migrants run their fraud NGO and SNAP schemes for them. Then when Donald Trump starts sniffing around their Somali fraud NGO's they cut spending to DHS.
Including Secret Service. People complain that area around that Hilton Ball Room was not secured enough. Maybe they DON'T see the democrat plan in all this - cut spending to the people protecting the President and let their Woke operatives do the dirty work of assassinating.Hey, people do get killed from unintended collateral damage. But I digress.
Anyway, should you decide to visit "The Big Easy" be careful, DO NOT take side streets in the French Quarter after dark. The bête are waiting in the dark to pounce on you and ruin your trip.
President Trump is right about..........everything.

Just dealt with the state on a loan and offered up a loss of nearly 5 million per year for cash infusion. Maybe collect the Latoya’s of New Orleans overdue monies and quit chasing them white folks out of town. Whoops too late, let the water mains flood the city. Maybe tear down the levees and let the gulf wash away the sins of last 100 years

An 8.75% discount rate is absolutely brutal.
This is extreme financial mismanagement.

Or smart people aren’t moving in. Compare the number of Fortune 500 companies in the city now vs. forty years ago.
Relying on tourism and shipping alone is setting up for catastrophe.

Purely anecdotal but I have personally witness in two separate cities what happens
In Tampa they fixed up Ybor city and it was great until a certain subset of people started coming at night and then other patrons stop and now it is an economic hole
Similarly in Orlando years ago they fixed up Church Street in downtown and it was great and then a certain set of people started coming down on Friday and Saturday night chasing off the other set of people and now none of the businesses can stay open
I am assuming this is what New Orleans is like

Man we are gonna laugh at this deal for years to come. This is gonna set NOLA back (even further) for a long time.
These idiots obviously didn't pay much attention to the Chicago Parking Meter deal, the incompetence in that one is still mind blowing.

I'm sure the former mayor taking those "business trips" to Paris didn't help.

A big part of the reason the city is broke is Teedy. None of her trips were about exploring business opportunities. It was always some jaunt to Europe, Africa or some other place to discuss climate change or police policies.
Plus I guarantee the accounting done by her administration was some off-the-wall shite nobody from an out of state accredited university can figure out.

I truly believe that potential mayors of Democratic shitholes like NOLA look at the job as a get rich scheme for themselves, as they know there is no hope of actually turning the city around.

Except the subset doesn’t just merely congregate there, they spawn
Posted on 4/29/26 at 8:21 am to dafif
Except in New Orleans the subset for the longest time lived adjacent to the FQ in Iberville and the Treme.
