I did some reading on how Chicago allowed the atrocious parking meter deal, and how it was tied to corruption and incompetence throughout the city government. I see NOLA is trying to one-up them.

The climate over the last 20 years hasn't helped lure any big companies here. I don't know what the answer or fix is but I sure do love New Orleans.
About luring big companies there:
Because NOLA politicians have always had their hands out looking for bribes... and/or getting companies to hire their kid, cousin, or brother to the company in a high position or hiring them and their company as a "contractor" for whatever to grease the palms. Then there is the tax situation in New Orleans. The Democrats there have never met a tax they didn't like. Companies look at other cities who really want them their for revenue, job creation etc. NOLA looks at them and tells them we're not giving you any tax incentives and we're going to tax the hell out of you with high sales tax, property taxes, payroll taxes etc etc etc. Lastly, they see the dilapidated sub-par third world infrastructure and high crime and that's the last straw that sees them going elsewhere.
The answer and fix:
NOLA politicians and power players need to quit trying to get their cut, keep their hands out of the cookie jar, and realize that these companies have choices where they can invest and locate. If you're not willing to incentivize them to come to New Orleans over another city that is offering them lower taxes, less corruption, less crime and a safer place for workers and their families, they're not coming.

Well, good for you. I can tell you many stories of locals there for generations that have had plenty of experience with crime, including murders of family members, armed robberies, car jackings etc.

Imagine believing someone has "no good reason," for not wanting to visit New Orleans.

This isn't unique to New Orleans. Look at our governor.
Not going to argue with that... but NOLA has long been known to be traditional Louisiana corruption on steroids. Extremely insular, nepotistic, and corrupt.

New Orleans and Memphis are both losing populations in their center cities, not unheard of, but a bad sign. New Orleans is losing metro population, which is almost unheard of in the south. Cities on either side like Houston and Nashville are flourishing. So that begs the question why? It’s actually not that difficult to get to the reason.

How many people take out a loan just to set the money aside in case it's needed at a future date?

This is what did it for me 20yrs ago. Basically told that I was not wanted or needed in the city.

Apparently you think this is also unique to New Orleans.

any city with a succession of leftist mostly black mayors
Leftists grab power when people get fed up with an incompetent non-leftist, then they run the city into the dirt and hold power forever.

Unfortunately many of the best and brightest decided to leave NO many years ago. Whenever I visit the only changes I notice are for the worst.
