If you had been paying attention you would have read the same report I did - the report that stated Iran fired two of their IRBM towards Europe. Fortunately, one failed in flight and the other one was shot down by American Anti-ballistic Missile Defense System based in Europe.

In those words lies my hope for eternal redemption. And a reminder that I must forgive as well, and stay close to Jesus.

And since early on in my spiritual journey I learned that prayer is a personal response to God's presence, I must listen. Luckily, I have Jesus waiting for me in the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel at my Catholic Church. While others await the return of Jesus at the end of time, I find consolation knowing that He never left us. I wish I could convince them to come visit Him, often.

To the doubters in the real presence, I remind us all, in Jesus, God (aka the Blessed Trinity) took on the form of man, and the night before He died Jesus took on the form of Living Bread. The Hebrews had their Arch of the Covenant (housing the Two Stone Tablets, Aaron's staff, and the Manna) the same Arch of the Covenant they set up in that tent in the middle of the Twelve Tribes arrayed around it. We Catholics have the Tabernacle housing Our Bread of Life (aka the New Covenant - Jesus). How cool is that? Yep, He never left us.

So I tell Him I love Him, and He tells me He loves me.

The report said 21 people shot, including some children. I always cringe when they say children are victims of shootings. Whether it's in Chicago or Baton Rouge the senseless violence hurts families. Early in my life I asked God to give me empathy (as opposed to simple sympathy) for the victims of violence. God answered my prayers.

But it was an awful tragedy in my family in 1968 that showed me the anguish the loss of a child visits upon a mother. My wonderful sister and her husband were killed in a train wreck. Their loss left a gaping hole in my heart that remains till this day. But it was the gut wrenching sob of my mother mourning the loss of her child that haunts me to this day. I will never forget as we struggled to grasp the enormity of our loss Mom sat in the living room sobbing uncontrollably as she rocked back and forth in her chair. A mournfull sob that shook me to my core.

I prayed I would never hear something again as terrible as the loss of a child in an accident or through an act of violence.

Ultimately, it will have to be God who saves us from ourselves. So tonight as I drift off to sleep I will pray for the mothers of these children in Chicago, and the mothers in Baton Rouge as well, and ask God to heal my country.

God does answer prayers - I've seen that time and again.

Islamics consider us infidels - lying to infidels is acceptable, indeed demanded. I wouldn't put any trust in anything the Islamic terrorist in Iran tell us.
