remember back when people joined the national guard because they thought it was only weekend duty and 2 weeks during the summer. paid well. then they wound up in iraq. i recall people saying, i didn't sign up for this. no, they shouldn't complain because they signed up. nobody forced them. but the iran war has revealed that the navy has some serious problems. they don't have enough ships in working order or crews to man those ships. taking a carrier from the pacific to replace one that has been at sea too long is a problem. especially if it leaves the pacific without one. ships in the middle east had been supplied by the naval base in bahrain. except it was destroyed. supplies now had to come from diego garcia, 2000 miles away. it doesn't look to me like hegseth and the pentagon thought all this through when they started a war they thought would be over in a week.

My grandfather who was in the Navy during WW2 once told me they ate so many beans that after the war when he got home, told my grandmother she could cook what ever she wanted to just no beans. I think it took him a couple decades to enjoy beans again.

A friend went through the Navy the duration of the Vietnam war & still has those same issues, with French fries. He said that those fries, cooked the same throughout the Navy, were hard to even digest. To this date he has never eaten even one.

So was my father. He was a navigator on a Fletcher class Destroyer Escort. He was at Iwa Jima, Okinawa and more After leaving Hawaii for the western Pacific in 1944 he was hardly off the boat until the end of the war.

He was a good navigator. When the decommissioned he was already out of active duty so the Captain took the big compass on the bridge and the 2 sextons he used to navigate and sent them to him. I have them now. I am thinking of donating them to the WW2 museum in New Orleans.

It's fine, she'll milk the system for 100% disability and get $4,000 per month for life.

It really has. The US Army should probably become solely a National Guard function while we drastically increase the size of the Navy.

Nailed it. And I thought we were getting soft when I was in. (Late 90’s)

My father's aircraft carrier was hit by two kamakazi's. 396 of his shipmates were lost that day.
