No pun intended right!

What I don't understand why the North couldn't help the South to become more industrialized to the point that they no longer needed slavery?

Probably because cotton was "king" and the South grew it for the northern factories. Even the brits needed the cotton.

Many forget many northern factories were staffed by orphans (child labor) with no workman's comp or union protection. They get hurt, they got tossed to the streets.

lincoln gave zero fricks about slaves. he only really cared about preserving the union and his power.

Lincoln's Letter to Horace Greeley.

Executive Mansion,
Washington, August 22, 1862.

Hon. Horace Greeley:
Dear Sir.

I have just read yours of the 19th. addressed to myself through the New-York Tribune. If there be in it any statements, or assumptions of fact, which I may know to be erroneous, I do not, now and here, controvert them. If there be in it any inferences which I may believe to be falsely drawn, I do not now and here, argue against them. If there be perceptable in it an impatient and dictatorial tone, I waive it in deference to an old friend, whose heart I have always supposed to be right.

As to the policy I "seem to be pursuing" as you say, I have not meant to leave any one in doubt.

I would save the Union. I would save it the shortest way under the Constitution. The sooner the national authority can be restored; the nearer the Union will be "the Union as it was." If there be those who would not save the Union, unless they could at the same time save slavery, I do not agree with them. If there be those who would not save the Union unless they could at the same time destroy slavery, I do not agree with them. My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; and what I forbear, I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union. I shall do less whenever I shall believe what I am doing hurts the cause, and I shall do more whenever I shall believe doing more will help the cause. I shall try to correct errors when shown to be errors; and I shall adopt new views so fast as they shall appear to be true views.

I have here stated my purpose according to my view of official duty; and I intend no modification of my oft-expressed personal wish that all men every where could be free.

Yours,
A. Lincoln.

Can there be limits placed on the 14th like they have on the 2nd amendment?
I'm glad Trump took a stab at it. Could have gone the other way with the right justices. Had Justice Antonin Scalia been on the SC this year it would have been a different outcome. Too bad he got murdered.

Got a feeling there are other plans for Trump or others who want to take up the crusade of ending birthright for aliens. This was plan A.
I've heard on social media today people argue the US is a melting pot of various nationalities and cultures. Is there a point in time we don't have to be a melting pot? Have we reached it?

I was thinking earlier about Solicitor General D. John Sauer. Did he drop the ball and could he have done a better job? Seems when Trump was sitting in on the oral arguments Trump was not happy with Sauer. It would be interesting if someone went over the transcripts. Maybe it did not matter what he said and the justices had their minds made up anyway.

The 14th has always been one huge clusterfrick. Why couldn't the guys back in 1865 have simply worded it: "All descendants of African slaves are hereby granted U.S. citizenship." That was the entire point of the 14th - to codify into law that slaves are now citizens

Good point.

re: "The SC got it right per the 14th"

It should have been worded in more detail yet they did not know the SCOTUS in 2026 has idiots on it.

Senate is on vacation till mid July thanks to Thune. I wonder if that was part of the plan.
What the Measure Would Do
IP28 would remove long-standing legal exemptions from Oregon’s animal cruelty laws, meaning:

Hunting and fishing (sport and commercial) would be classified as animal abuse.

Trapping for pest control or wildlife management would be illegal.

Livestock farming and ranching would be banned, including breeding, milking, dehorning, docking, and artificial insemination — all of which would be labeled “sexual abuse” under the measure Yahoo+1.

Scientific research involving animals and rodeos would also be prohibited.

Tribal subsistence and ceremonial hunting/fishing would be banned.
Nixon had just won by a landslip and very popular. I had some people at different times that were around at the time, said if he just came out in the beginning and confessed and did an apology it would have been a nothing burger. Instead he tried to cover it up and sweep it under the rug. And then it festered.

I still think the CIA had something to do about it.

re: Sir, this is a Wendy’s

In my area Wendy's is getting more competition with Whataburger and Culver's expanding and opening up plus others. Both of those are private. I tried McD's the other day and it was nasty. Yet it has a cult following. I'm burned out on Red Robin. Way over priced.
What's happened to XRX the past five years?

Maybe Trump is trying to play good cop with the food handout and such and let Bebe and Israel play the bad cop. Slick.

Plus he is selling our grain from their money to them. Win for the US farmer.

We had a 72% tax braket until the 1970s

It seems the estate tax then was 77% and Reagan lowered it to 50% in the mid 80's. Allowing for great transfer of wealth to the next generation.
I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in the room with Hillary when she found out she lost. Interesting no video of it. I heard they kept people from taping her. I bet she had an epic meltdown.
Buc-ee's has ruined it for the little guy.

Circle K's and have taking over Huntsville. Along with Twice Daily. Then there is Costco, Sam's, Bj's and now Kroger selling gasoline.
