Whenever I see this, I think of the CIA was involved. They cause more trouble than any other US agency.

Can you imagine being able to overthrow a government with a couple of armed personnel carriers and a couple dozen soldiers?

It's like the size of Texas with half the population. Only one large city and couple with a population over 500k. I figure the strength of it's government is centrally located. Way different than the US.

I hate to see the return of military juntas to Latin America, and Arce seems to be fairly moderate as socialists go, more so than his predecessor Morales. He is a British-educated economist and his record seems to indicate that he knows what he's talking about and doing. He IS a populist and has strongly appealed to the many indigenous groups of Bolivia, which makes him not very popular among the euro members of the military.

It's not clear how widespread this attempted coup is and it may just be the brainchild of a single general, Zuniga.

Haven't seen much on US media about it!

So an insurrection is when they are unarmed and a coup is when armed they are armed.

Gotcha. Now I understand.

Another thing to remember is that much like South Africa, Bolivia is a country with more than one capital city. La Paz is the capital of the executive branch and legislative branch, but the capital of the judicial branch is in Sucre. Neither La Paz nor Sucre are the largest city (Santa Cruz de la Sierra), but La Paz is #3 and the second largest city is right next door in El Alto.
Guess we know who did their high school term paper on Bolivia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin went on Russian TV Wednesday night in Moscow threatening to use nuclear weapons against the U.S. and Western Europe if the coup in Bolivia succeeded....or failed, whatever.

Accurate, succinct analysis. I nominate you for Sec. State or at least head the South American desk. I hope Trump is listening.
