I really like the The Revenant.
re: Grill Talk: Can some of you share your recent experiences buying grills?
Posted by Trauma14 on 7/9/26 at 6:10 pm to DiamondDog
Master Built gravity series is one the better grills I’ve seen around. Instead of pellets, you can still use briquettes/lump charcoal/wood chips. Produces a much better smoke than pellet grills and you still have the same temp control.
Im not a fan of getting locked in a car with no way out. Seems like this may backfire someday on Waymo.
re: Tragic story out of WI over the holiday weekend - 3 children drown in boating accident
Posted by Trauma14 on 7/7/26 at 3:45 pm to Chucktown_Badger
That sounds harrowing. Everyone wore the life jackets but the kids clearly rolled with the capsized boat and became lodge between the deck and the pressing water pressure. It probably sank so fast no person could physically rescue them quickly. As a parent, I can't imagine the pain, fear, and pure total helpless you'd feel floating safely in the water while your kids died.

My house has damn good insulation so 71 is already cool enough. Hotels, jam that thing down all the way.
My bro in law keeps his house at 78. We don’t visit much. I think that’s his wife’s goal.

re: Memphis recs? Beyond BBQ I'm not sure what the area has to offer

Lived in Memphis for a year and was fairly impressed with the dining scene. They have some really good restaurants.
Coastal Fish Company - popular place in Shelby Farms Park. Ate there twice and it was great both times.
Andrew Michael - upscale Italian spot in Brookhaven Circle that was very very good
Hog and Hominy - across the street from Andrew Michael and started by the same two dudes. Great drinks, great apps, great pizzas.
Some other great spots in the downtown area:
Amelia Gene’s - contemporary fine dining type of place. They do a Thursday tasting menu special that was really good when I went. They also have a normal menu.
Catherine and Mary’s - same owners as Andrew Michael and H&H. Italian place downtown.
Flight - does flights of small plates. Heard awesome things about it.
Itta Bena - I never went here but people I worked with always said it was great. It’s on Beale Street above BB Kings
Porch and Parlor - nice steakhouse in Overton Square
Folk’s Folly - old school steakhouse that is a Memphis favorite. I thought porch and parlor was a lot better.
All great recs. I love Itta Bena. It's right above BB King's bar and has a sultry blues vibe. Great southern steakhouse style restaurant.
The Memphis restaurant scene is growing fast.
re: Soccer flopping is real

I don’t mind the flop to sell a penalty. I hate the disingenuous rolling around in pain and then standing up and sprinting 2 seconds later.
Like the cover your mouth role, let’s have one that if you show any sort of pain and act like you can’t get up, then immediate substitution.

Mail in voting is bs.
Yes. Total BS and completely unregulated.
Absentee Ballot is much more secure, which is why Covid was a good excuse to move to mail in balloting. Too much effort and security goes into Absentee Ballots, which is why these jack wagons changed their state laws. Now they can just print ballots freely and fill them out without impunity.

He leaped and threw his leg. I'm not sure what you guys are seeing. He's like the second coming of Draymond Green. Unnatural movements that are clearly intentional. We've all played sports. We know what an unnatural movement looks like. That was 100% intentional kick directed right to his leg.

Pretty Woman is a weird addition to that selection
I know. But we found it hidden and would watch it while the parents were at work and then would put it back where we found it. I was the youngest kid, so I benefited from the mischievousness of my older siblings.

I was 8 when it was released. I probably saw it twice. I liked it but thought the masks/makeup on the characters were weird and they creeped me out a bit. It wasn't on the rewatch VHS circuit like Star Wars, Batman, Never Ending Story, Princess Bride, Goonies, Big, Pretty Woman, Breakfast Club, Top Gun, Ferris Bueller, etc... It was beneath those films for me during that awesome time of my life where I rode bikes, watched movies on VHS repeatedly with friends (because most kids didn't have cable), shot BB guns, and generally had no supervision in the summers.
If the laser eyes are so powerful, why does she even need to throw a punch? Just laser everyone.
Cash me outside. Not risking paying off my home and freeing up monthly expenses for the 50/50 shot of doubling it my money. Walk away very happy.
This idiot is going to recreate the NYC 1970's economic crisis all over again. The property owners are going lose leverage and liquidity which means lending will slow down. Banks will tighten and demand more for loans and development will slow down. This short term gain in revenue will frick NYC long term.

There is already a long history behind that area and the fight between Alabama and Florida. Florida obviously won, so I don't see them ever giving it up. It doesn't make sense for them to do so.
re: Did your parents take you to R rated movies in the 80's, 90's

I saw Speed with my grandmother in theaters. All other R movies with my parents were vhs rentals.

Job bought Siri in 2010 knowing it was the first direct to person AI tool and then died. He'd be irate Apple has done jack shite with it. Apple under Jobs from 2010 might not have been as successful in the numbers as Cook, but they would be a leader in AI right now. Jobs would have found a better way for us to use it and put it to better use for the consumer.
