Trump and most conservative politicians have made it very clear.
Do you understand how wealth is made. Its called value added.
Borrowing/printing money, in order to buy from China, is not adding wealth, it adds to our debt.

Presently we buy from China, China buys our farmland, builds ships, and military equipment.
We go further into debt each year.

China takes a dim view of folks who are not slant eyed and with yellow skin.

One thing to keep in mind about these jobs, manufacturing/ Trades. Applicants need to pass a drug test. Any accidents, even minor ones, drug test. These are, or can be, dangerous jobs. We do have a substance abuse problem in the US.

There are over 12MM manufacturing jobs in the US and avg turnover is 3.5% so that number is in line with what you’d expect.

Openings do not mean they are unable to be filled.

If you're arguing the problems of these "small towns left behind" are largely self-inflicted, I agree.

So your are saying manufacturing jobs increase the value of these service jobs:

testing companies,
rehab centers,
doctors,
lawyers,
.
.
.

Why do we need more jobs when we have the lowest unemployment rate in the world and just had an absolute stellar jobs report?

13% of the US population or 47 million people currently receive some form of welfare.

The only people who will want those jobs he’s deporting left and right.

first - those he is deporting 'left and right' are either members of terrorist-like gangs or those in close association with them. If an innocent illegal alien just happens to be in a group of TrenDeAura then they should learn to hang with better people. These are the ones getting the press.

Others are given 'self-deport' opportunities to return to their homeland and begin a LEGAL process of achieving citizenship or getting a work visa. Both these laudable efforts are being sidelined because of the tsunami of illegal aliens purposely flooded into the country just to cause havoc by the DEMOCRATs (and benefit by getting them onto voter registration rolls.)

Right now all that’s happening is money is going out of Americans pockets and going straight into the federal government.

That is better than letting it go into furthering gang-activities, or having it sent back to aliens' home countries, or just feeding drug dealers.

PLUS - we need 'qualified' immigrants who can immediately CONTRIBUTE to the US economy or its scientific/military objectives.

We ALSO need to cut the cord to a whole host of LAZY arse AMERICANs who sit back and breed more worthless kids while getting 'welfare for the needy' and free health-care/housing/food stamps and. NO able-bodied American should be getting anything FREE from the government - especially MALEs.

They got no time to do anything but PROTEST - f'em.

People making bad choices is the real problem. These people make themselves unemployable (his example with drugs) or choose to go on welfare.

I think he's trying to say we'll have a workforce problem if we get these jobs back because too many people can't pass a drug screen. At least I think that's what he's trying to do.

How will this trade war fix that?

This is in addition to the trades that have a huge demand for labor.

People who need these jobs have plenty of opportunities

One really easy fix that would help fill at least a decent % of those jobs is to advertise where those jobs are, with what company they are, and how to apply for said jobs.

It's amazing to me how unnecessarily difficult it has been (for a few years now) to people to find manufacturing jobs on a job search board. There are likely thousands of abled bodied people who would gladly take those jobs if they knew they existed

I think he's saying that not only can a service economy build off of the positive consequences of manufacturing stuff, the service economy can also build off of the negative consequences of manufacturing stuff.

Save for inconsequential trinkets, everything we need should be made in the USA. It was that way once

increasing revenue into the USA is just as important as creating jobs directly. That increased revenue will help build that new manufacturing capability.

Have you seen the Midwest ?

Detroit is the perfect example, it was a major city in the US and has now become an afterthought.

Plus why are we dependent on other countries (china) to provide products we need to survive, including medicine.

Great point lost in all of this, is cutting the welfare state.

There are lots of jobs out there, just not enough people willing to take them.
