Three states where the majority of babies are born to unwed mothers. Mississippi, Louisiana and New Mexico.

As I said in the MS education thread - everything that MS is doing in education is going to be worthless if we don't start doing more to keep our best and brightest. When all that is left is the bottom quartile, this is what you get.

It's a way of life in these two.

Young girls are taught how to "get paid", the formula is having a child without being married, it's passed down from generation to generation.

There's a big big difference between unwed parents, and absent parents.

As per usual, Louisiana is on top in all the right things. Seriously though, those stats are depressing as hell nationwide.

The most surprising thing to me on this map is Utah being at 22%. I assumed it would be low teens or even single digits.

Not that much difference between MS and Florida. I think our biggest problem is the number of people that choose not to work for a living (its most definitely just single people doing this). Having a job is good for your health (both mentally and physically). People that choose not to work are an exponential drain on the system and they don't realize they are hurting themselves more than anyone. I am not talking about stay-at-home mothers here, I am talking about people that choose to find a way to live off the system.

You need to think in terms of building livable wage jobs.

Once you have jobs capable of sustaining a middle class you can then do more than lock up the welfare babies when they grow up to be welfare criminals.

This is just a side effect of dense impoverished minority populations.

When 1 guy can have 12 wives and multiple kids all counting as being wed, it will skew numbers a lot lower

That assumes it is monolithically white and Mormon.

The state is 22% Hispanic and the birth numbers in nearby New Mexico are largely driven by Hispanics, I’m sure.

I really expected this post to be “black people”

Biggest problems in Louisiana are political corruption, apathy, and lack of opportunities.

Maryland is at 47% in there

MD, California, Texas Georgia, Florida and NC have plenty of poor minorities, single moms yet are attracting businesses and jobs
This is a LA, MS problem

State and federal govts need to turn back the clock on LBJs programs incentivizing the least productive members of society to keep increasing the dependent class.

Make divorce less of a beat down for the man and marriage may not look so unattractive.

That is my question. Does this include a couple who decide not to marry but have children?

In theory, not in practice.

It would be helpful if the map included the national average.
