Then speech was following questioning on concerns of the AA community that moved to Houston/Atlanta coming back. Nagin said what he said to assure those that New Orleans would remain a majority 'chocolate'. He even went as far as to say the storm was judgement from God over the US being in Iraq, and that it was a chance for the AA community to build back better and stronger as New Orleans would be the picturesque 'chocolate city' that MLK dreamed of.

It had nothing to do with the levees, but concern that the majority of the black community had abandoned New Orleans with no intent to return several months after he and other officials had told them it was safe to do so.

I never heard it called Chocolate City.
How old are you? Post-Katrina New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin: "It's time for us to rebuild a New Orleans, the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans. And I don't care what people are saying Uptown or wherever they are. This city will be chocolate at the end of the day. New Orleans will be a majority African-American city."

Rapides Parish girl, I think this year she is in the Spakle Smash Unicorn truck. She is a pretty damn good athlete. IIRC she still holds the LHSAA 100-M Hurdle record. Also had a little MMA career fighting in some regional bouts across the state.

The Big Rig? When I took my mini me we saw her as well. Don't remember the first name, but I know the last was Gauthier but not South LA Gauthier, Canadian Gauthier.

The woman driving Scooby Doo at the event we went to wasn't bad to look at either, I don't remember her name.

Did she make you the sandwich before skeet or before the fleet? AFAF whose skeet and fleet endeavors normally end with trash panda drive thru on the way back to the casa post skeet and fleet.
Yes, also He didn't leave the Roman Territories. Just one province to another. Like if someone left California to go to Arizona because the governor of California had a vendetta against them.

Jesus was undocumented
Had he argued Jesus was a refugee when Mary and Joseph fled to Egypt to escape Herod, then he would have had a point. Ultimately though Jesus never really left the Roman Empire and just moved around different provinces. Rome cared about people moving into and out of the territories and not really movement from province to province.

You're right and produced the list.
10-15 years ago your argument about Caddo and Bistineau would have been more than fair. It feels like that is where everyone's opinion for those lakes is centered. It cannot be overstated the work those Lake commissions for Caney, Bussy, and D'arbonne along with the LAWLF have done in the last 5-10 years. I'm glad they are getting the love they are nationally, and hope those that wrote them off within the state will open their eyes to what an amazing job has been done there.

Tensas, Madison, and East Carroll
I don't disagree. His argument was that Ruston and West Monroe had the best hunting in the state. My argument was the surrounding parishes provide access to the best hunting, but people from those areas go to the three parishes I listed to hunt. Just arguing semantics with Mingo for the sake of arguing. The Choudrant/Calhoun area is a great area, but the outdoor amenities other than golf are from the surrounding parishes. His point stands that within 45 minutes you can be in one of the top fishing spots or hunting spots in the state. Are there arguably better? Yes, but not close to any of the areas being mentioned as good places to live, and when people say Ruston or West Monroe, most often they are referencing Choudrant and Calhoun.

Toledo is a perennial top 5 bass lake over the past decade and id love to see one ranking with Caney even top 10.

Latest rankings from the LAWLF website

Caney is back and has been for 5 years or so. Bussy is also as good or better than Toledo over that same span. D'arbonne is consistently rated the best sacalait lakes in the country and is on the rotation to hold the 'Crappie' National Championship every few years.
Top 25 Sacalait Lakes in the Country

2024 rankings has Bussy as the only lake in Louisiana in the top 10.
2024 Top Bass Lakes in the US

That triangle of lakes around Monroe/Ruston can easily be argued as one of the top freshwater spots in the country with 3 top 25 lakes all within a 45 minute drive. Toledo is great, but it hasn't been the best lake in the state in several years. Bussy and Caney both have at minimum performed to the point they are in the argument, and D'arbonne isn't far behind.

I'd argue for fishing because of the access to Grand Isle, the Rigolets and other inshore areas.
With salt water/brackish fishing comes coastal issues like higher insurance, flood insurance, and hurricanes that I think would factor in to places to raise a family or retire.

Development has outpaced infrastructure her
What's the honest cap there? I know Ritter is expecting 18k with the last census gets published. From 3k to 18k in 20 years is just mindblowing. Do they halt development at 20k and try to catch up with infrastructure?
quote:

Darbonne is way better than Toledo Bend.
Caney is often ranked higher than Toledo purely for Bass. Freshwater fishing in general Toledo is typically a top 10 lake, but Caney is as well, and D'arbonne and Bussy are both top 25. From Mingo's area he can be on those lakes with a livewell full before someone from the other areas listed is even in line at the boat ramp at Toledo.

I don't argue your other points, but if outdoors and safety is a person's focus it is hard to beat that area.

Dang MPt, either they don't ever collect their eggs, or used tires is the secret to max egg production.

All of that is within 30 minutes
Ruston or West Monroe to Caney.... probably closer to 45. Choudrant to Caney....ehhh maybe 30 to til you turn onto hwy 4 from 146, not to the lake.
quote:

some of the best lakes in state for both recreation and fishing
Ruston and WM don't get to claim Caney or D'arbonne. If they do then Downsville gets to claim Squire and Calvert as it is closer to those than WM or Ruston is to either lake.

Where? Jackson, Union, Claiborne...sure, but not Lincoln or Ouachita.

That's fair. I am typically active in different parts of the community, so I get to know people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds. I would say the majority of the people who have moved into those two areas during the most recent boom are doing so to get into either ARCA or Southside. Now that's not exclusive, I do know ones who have kids at ESA, Ascension, and STM that moved there for a slightly quieter life. That said though it's not uncommon for kids in Sabal Palms or La Triomphe to go to ARCA or Southside, I know of several.

it's still not very convenient at all if you're working in Lafayette and living in Youngsville.
Agreed, though I think WFH and flex scheduling helps with that. Also the commutes aren't bad once school lets out. The SAHM and Bus traffic adds a lot to that commute Aug-May.
quote:

I don't understand the allure of Youngsville or Broussard, there are plenty of nice and safe neighborhoods in Lafayette proper.
If you are going the public option I don't think anything is touching Southside in terms of quality of education and accessibility to preparedness for life after HS with the vocational opportunities that school offers beyond providing a pretty good college prep curriculum for students going that route. I talk to a lot of the families in that area, and cost per sq/ft and Southside are the top 2 reasons to move there vs a comparable spot in Lafayette proper.

It is really not that bad.
Aside from the fact the electric units have an intended 3-4 yr life cycle and the battery degradation typically begins in yr 2 with intended life of 3 seasons before they need to be replaced. I know battery recycling and reclamation with reduced carbon offset has come a long way, but it is still not a clean process. Movement to electric as it has become a better option will happen. Forced movement by the government to a solution that does not work for everyone is bad.
