What you described seems informal. I think the island in the Caribbean was a formal port of entry into the swamp club. Greased wheels in exchange for dirt on yourself

I don't think he's compromised. I think he's a chickenshit, like most Republicans. Unwilling to allow himself (and probably his wife and kids and dog) to be drug through the mud by the media, late night hosts, on TV and in the movies the way he would be if he was resolute in acting on his stated principles.

I don't doubt there are layers of blackmail schemes. It's not like anything I said is a big secret, it was just interesting to hear the perspective from a normal person.

He got nothing. Compromise implies he gave up something to get something.

I don't think most politicians are "compromised" and that's not what motivates them or compels them. The vast majority become politicians because they want to play the game and become rich and powerful.
And if any suddenly decide to grow a conscience the system protects itself nicely via lawfare and a media that will ruin your name. The people you love might just stop not having "accidents" too.

Think less blackmail and more extortion. The modern political class are the new Cosa Nostra.

Nothing. He just realized he has no power and a shut down would be bad for himself and the party. Things don't always have to be overly complicated or a conspiracy.

For 50 years the "best for the party" decision has always been made...but the country is now a colossal mess, trillions in debt with inflation through the roof and corruption reigning supreme

he was compromised the minute he became a politician. The first sign should have been when he ran on his faith in God.

Especially if any of their constituents listened to Chip Roys run down if ridiculous ear marks included in this spending bill!
I had to stop listening.... fricking disgusting.

Nothing. What guys like you don’t understand is that if Mike Johnson followed your prescriptions the Republicans would have one glorious season, and then they would be absolutely annihilated at the polls. The Democrats would achieve huge majorities in the House and Senate and everything you and Mike Johnson believe in would be trampled. You’d have universal, single-payer health care, a minimum guaranteed income for everyone, a top tax rate above 50%, and you would probably have to fellate a tranny in order to be able to buy groceries.

How do I know this? Because government shutdowns were tried on several occasions and it turned out very badly for the Republicans so they eventually had to cave.

The Republicans you describe are quitting on their own and handing the Dems power.

This, especially when half of your own team has beliefs counter to your own. It’s nearly an impossible situation.
