Any stories?
Seems like we got an interesting batch of characters
Can be governors, congressmen, state reps, mayors, etc.
Did they actually come across as smart to you?

One statewide politician I met a couple of years ago had quite the potty mouth (in a group of less than ten people) that were not all close to that person.
It was surprisingly foul.
I’m not a prude; but it was inappropriate.

Kip was pretty chill in-person. Liked fat bottomed white girls, like most red blooded Americans.
Mike Foster always seemed like he was in a hurry when I’d see him at LSU. Family friend was on his LSP security detail. Said Mike was pretty nice in person.

Sheeeeeet. With the jobs I've had over the years, I've crossed paths with many politicians from Louisiana, other states, from national offices, and even from foreign countries. They are all the same - narcissistic slimeballs who deserve to burn in hell.
Now, some were "cool" narcissistic slimeballs who were kind of fun to hang around, and other were "prick" narcissistic slimeballs whom you wanted to throat punch the moment you met them, but at the end of the day, they'll all stab you in the back while fricking you in the arse.

Most prominent Louisiana politicians are pretty fun to hang out with because they’re basically cartoon characters. Big larger than life personalities who love to drink and brag. Some are actually incredibly shrewd but play dumb.
A few are actually shy bookworms, but have learned to play a character. Some play it well while others don’t. Very few are willing to just be openly autistic policy wonk nerds, but it works for a handful of them.
Some aren’t book smart but are excellent at reading a room and have very high emotional IQ.
Some are straight up dumber than a bag of hammers and I cannot understand how they manage to dress themselves in the morning let alone have ever convinced anyone to vote for them.
Some are humble and down to earth while others are extremely arrogant.
The least fun were some of the stodgy preacher types from LP or North Louisiana, but among the most fun were the fake preacher types from the same places.
So, mixed bag, but generally fun people is probably my best summary.

Sid Edwards. Loaned us his van when our house burned down and took my wife's car with it. Had never met him. He was also going to get the Central football team to help with the house cleanup, but I didn't want any of them to get cut on something, especially during football season.

Bobby Jindal briefly. He seemed nice enough but was in "shaking hands and kissing babies" mode.
Stood behind Steve Scalise getting Five Guys in Metairie with his kids. I didn't bother him but appreciated he was taking personal time with his kids. Another takeaway I had is he still has major side effects from getting shot.

I used to see Hillar Moore at Ivar’s when I lived in the area. That’s all I got.

Was on a trip years ago, I think it was probably 15. Jeff Landry was there but no one knew who he was, I believe he may have been running for Rep for the first time. We were on a ferry. He was a bit modest and didn't have much to say. His wife was making sure to tell us who he was
Met John Kennedy about 2 years ago, he was like you see him on TV.
Mike Johnson was very down to earth as well.

I recently met with a sitting state rep. I was shocked by how insecure this person was. Lots of name dropping. I was very disappointed and also confused because I thought I was supposed to be trying to impress them but they were acting like they were trying to impress me.
I used to run into Bill Cassidy all the time when I lived in BR. I'd see him downtown or randomly at the grocery store or CVS. He was always cordial/normal in the way any random stranger would be if you were next to them in line or whatever. Couldn't get a read on his intelligence but he passed medical school.
I met Buddy Roemer at a conference a long time ago and he was very down to earth and nice. He seemed smart.
All NOLA City Council members are USELESS! I can't stand any of them. My councilman, Eugene Green, called me a few years ago after a ridiculous saga and I've been in the same room with him numerous times because he would attend the opening of an envelope. I CANNOT STAND HIM. He is not smart. But smart enough to keep getting elected to offices where he does absolutely NOTHING.
I had a call with Latoya during her first term. She did not come across smart.

I grew up with the family of a senator, they were rich and lived in a huge house.
Wonder How on this:
Louisiana state senators receive a base annual salary of $16,800, an amount that has remained unchanged since 1980. In addition to their base pay, they receive a daily per diem of $178 for days spent on legislative business and a $6,000 unvouchered expense

I have met Bobby Jindal once at an event for Veterans. Shook his hand and said a few words. He seemed like a nice guy.
