I’ve also done work for him and he was polite, but he didn’t play the folksy character and voice he now portrays. He hardly even sounded southern.
eta: I’ve actually met many state and a handful of national politicians. Al Gore, Mitt Romney, Bill Cassidy, etc. I’m forgetting a few.

Went to law school with Liz Murrill (nee Baker) and Nancy Landry. They were both extremely nice people. Both smoked. Nancy brought her dog to class.
Knew Alan Seabaugh as a kid. Didn’t like him then either.
Mitch Landrieu actually mediated a couple of cases for me about 20 years ago. He was funny and normal, and not a bad mediator.
And since we’re on Democrats, I know Royce Duplessis. I find him to be a great guy. More pragmatic than he comes across on TV.
Met Edwin Edwards once. He was pleasant.

John Cooksey was a lifelong family friend (even performed eye surgery on me when I was a kid). When he said he would serve only three terms in Congress as a Representative, I had no problem believing it.
Jay Dardenne is friendly, but quiet. He's far from the stereotypical loud/boisterous politician and loves LSU baseball.
Yes, both did.
There are others who have come across a bit... less... but they all have that personal charisma in one-on-one or small-group interactions which got them elected and then re-elected time and again.

I have met many - met Landry personally and he is more stupid in person - known John Kennedy for a long time and he is off the charts smart (the foghorn leghorn stuff is not an act but is used to simply issues for the largely lower IQ voting public - one has to be smart to be able to remember and throw out the one liners he uses) - I knew Edwin Edwards, and although I disagreed with his politics, he was extremely smart and a great politician - I have known Jay Dardenne for years and his lifetime goal was to be governor (nice, smart, but killed his political career when accepting a job in the Edwards admin)

John Kennedy many times. his current foghorn leghorn act is fake. Shocking I know
Yep. He is performative. Also, smart as a whip.

Shady Wall.
He was a State Rep from Monroe. He was friends with my dad. Shady was quite a character. He had a Rolls Royce and was a firearm aficionado.

I’ve met John Bel and Edwin Edwards. I wildly disagree with most of their politics, but both were nice and interesting to chat with. Edwin was definitely showing his age, but still had a ton of charisma. It’s a shame he couldn’t use it for the benefit of the state over himself.

My brother met Cassidy at a local business summit. He said that he came off " creepy".

Met David Vitter once when he came to the place I worked as he had scheduled our board room for a meeting. Was cordial to us as we helped him get setup.
Former state Senator Don Hines was pretty nice and once stapled up a large wound I had torn open on the base of my hand. Nice guy and a good doctor.
Those are the only two I've met that have any kind of name recognition.

My cousin's daughter was roommates/sorority sisters with the daughter of a La supreme court justice. He seemed a bit of an odd duck but I only met him once.

I met Bill Cassidy a number of times about twenty years ago when he was my father's hepatologist. He was friendly and seemed like a pretty good doctor to me
I think the Louisiana politics / RNC / RINO machines changed him for the worse.

Saw Edwin drink a Coors Silver Bullet. Mike Foster was a good friend. J Bennett had just torpedoed Bork, when we met. I gave him some grief. Visited with Edwin, Candy and his brother up in Michigan before he reported to prison. BB 60 Rayburn was difficult especially after lunch. O'Keefe was awfully polite. Elwin J Nicholson was one of the funniest politicians ever. Yeah, I'm old.

Grew middle age close to jeff. Large mutual ourdoorsmen group, deep sea fishing and Texas deer hunting. Ended up reasonably close friends. Kids went to school together.
Hes a friend and we speak often enough.
Jeff's a great guy, fun loving and trustworthy. I often catch myself getting mad at events unfolding, but remind myself he understands his path, and has to do things to get there...knowing many won't like everything. But the end goal is to make Louisiana better, although he has to lose a few.
I really really don't understand the pogey situation and we are really pissed at the outcome...with him and Troy Hebert (rep) , whose close w us also.
We all get together occasionally in a private members club here in Lafayette and bitch like we matter, lol
