From the woman's testimony:
quote:

Once they were inside, Hunt pounced on her after brief and awkward small talk that the pastor’s wife had found unusual

Sounds like 16-year-old me at my junior prom.

So, that's the best plan God could come up with? 95+% of humans burning for eternity?

Again, seeing the perfect creator put up numbers like that... I'd hate to see the scoreboard if he was a frick up.
I think you’re missing the point. This isn’t the plan out of necessity and God just couldn’t do better, but it is the plan out of purposeful design. God decided to show mercy on some people who didn’t deserve it out of the host of rebels that shake their fist at their creator.

This stuff is horrible. Their is a harsher judgement on those in authority like this that abuse it.

Men in power will often seek to abuse that power, usually for financial or sexual gain. That doesn’t change just because the position of power is in a religious hierarchy.

It consistently amazes me that nobody is shocked when a corporate CEO is accused of such things, but as soon as it’s a religious leader suddenly women are fainting. As if the nature of the work changes human behavioral norms.

He responded with for the most part the list included people who’ve already been convicted of sexual misconduct and abuse.

It's nearly 100% people who were already convicted. The "scandal" is that apparently the people who performed their investigation think the SBC should have been keeping a database of these convictions. But that doesn't make any sense. These convictions would have popped up in any ordinary background check anyway. The SBC creating a database of convictions isn't useful.

If the problem seems this big and they only found people already convicted it makes you wonder how hard they looked for I convicted abusers.

0 active? They got every single one already?

Who got every single one already? The police investigate crimes. Not the Southern Baptist Convention. In fact, the executive committee of the SBC has no authority to investigate anything at member churches. That's not how the SBC works.

If they try to exert more power over member churches, the convention will fall apart.

Do you believe that or are you simply taking an opportunity to slam Christianity because some dude was playing like he was Christian?

I think there are some really decent and devoted pastors, my belief is the majority are…but this dude was not one of them.

The SBC knew about it and covered it up. It will be just as big or bigger than the Catholics as this is just the tip of the iceberg coming out.

Yeah and all gun owners or those who have mental illness plan on shooting up schools full of kids…while we’re generalizing here!

LOL!

Evidently you are not capable of reading the release.

AS MANY in this thread have pointed out, the release is made up of people convicted and was very public.

This is not just a Catholic phenomena. Every denomination has this problem, so do the Boy Scouts, public education, businesses. There are some sick people who are attracted to positions where they can use their authority to abuse others.

So you don't think if God personally walked and talked with every member of his creation, like he did with Adam and Eve, that not one extra soul would be saved?

quote:

God decided to show mercy on some people who didn’t deserve it

I don't get this mentality.

God creates us drowning in a pool, then gets to be viewed as merciful when he throws 1 or 2% of us a flotation device.

Honest question: If you were given the odds before being created in sin on Earth, told that there was a ~98% chance you'd burn for all eternity or a 2% chance you'd end up in paradise, would you want to be created and roll the dice?

Even if you say yes, can you understand someone saying no to that offer?

Foo is a Calvinist who follows John Calvin's thoughts and opinions on these issues. Calvinism is Predestinationism. It's a minority view, even among Protestants.
