My FIL landed at Pointe du Hoc with the 2nd Rangers, and climbed those cliffs. He also fought in 4 other major battles including Hedgerows and the Bulge. He revisited Omaha Beach on 50th anniversary and he did not discuss his experiences until about 2 weeks before he died. We were shocked at what he told us. We had no idea. He never saw the movie “Saving Private Ryan”.

It should be a great experience for you. Please post here after your visit.

Hugh is supposedly a smooth talker and knows how to say the right things to the deep pockets. He also plays some golf with them.

Those deep pockets have got to be concerned / confused about his play calling since he was known as an offensive wizard before coming to AU. We may have the worst offense in the conference. Also… we keep striking out on our portal QBs.

He was with a special unit, the 81st Chemical Mortar Battalion, and was attached to the Rangers on D-Day. They really were not assigned to a division as such… but were independent. Other members were attached to other units landing on Omaha Beach.

I think what pisses DJT off is he and Doocy are pretty tight. Peter always gets a great place in the Oval Office press conferences, he and Peter kid around a lot, he’s on AF One on most trips, and have a very good relationship. I’m sure DJT was shocked.

That’s very interesting. My father in law landed on Omaha beach with the Rangers at Pointe du Hoc on D Day. It’s a miracle he made through alive. He went on to fight in several more battles such as Hedgerows, Battle of the Bulge, etc.

My father fought with 34th infantry division in Italy and was captured by the Nazis near Florence. He was held as a POW at Stalag 7A in Moosburg, Germany. They were liberated by Patton’s army.

Neither one of these men talked about their experiences until right before they died in the late 1990s.
