Johnny Hunt, former SBC president and Executive VP of the SBC North America Mission Board, is probably the biggest name among the 700+ SBC ministers caught up in the sexual abuse report released last week
Warning: Pretty graphic testimony

Warning: Pretty graphic testimony
quote:
“Dr. Hunt then moved towards Survivor and proceeded to pull her shorts down, turn her over and stare at her bare backside. He made sexual remarks about her body and things he had imagined about her. During this time, Survivor felt frozen. Survivor said these were some of the longest moments of her life,” the report said.
“She mustered the courage to ask him could she turn back over, and Dr. Hunt said yes. When she turned back over, she began to pull up her shorts. Dr. Hunt then pinned her to the couch, got on top of her, and pulled up her shirt. He sexually assaulted her with his hands and mouth,” the report continued before noting that Hunt allegedly stopped at this point and stood up.
The pastor’s wife reportedly told Hunt she didn’t want him to ruin his ministry and he said the same for her but he couldn’t help himself.
“[Hunt] then forced himself on her again by groping her, trying to pull her shirt down, and violently kissing her. Survivor did not reciprocate, but rather stood eyes open and very stiff, hoping he would just stop and leave. He finally stopped and left. She locked the door behind him and felt very shocked, confused, and violated,” the report said.

Talked with a family member of mine who would know about all of this and I asked if the SBC convention will be contentious in a few weeks out in Anaheim. That they’ll have to address this huge elephant in the room
He responded with for the most part the list included people who’ve already been convicted of sexual misconduct and abuse. So while it’s a shock. It’s not like the Catholic Churches scandal where they knew the abuse and just transferred priests to different areas .
For example Steve Gaines Jr, whose dad was named in the list, Steve Gaines sr, pastor at huge Bellevue baptist in Memphis… actually fought harder than anyone to have this issue investigated ( not sure if this happened last year .. couldn’t remember )
Not sure if he knew his dad would be listed, but from what I’ve heard, Jr is no nonsense and wanted it exposed anyway
The executives that spoke at the SBC convention obviously did not want this all to come out and were constantly trying to talk down the motion to investigate but eventually the numbers were too great and thus the investigation into this report were done and now we’re seeing the results

I was literally about to post this.
I opened the list and found this:
- Not all of these listed are even SBC pastors or workers.
- And all of them that I saw has already been convicted.
- They show articles and links to their convictions.
So how was this a cover up?

I think it’s more along the lines of an explosive story coming out with the headlines of pastors and abuse and SBC .
My family member didn’t think it would cause a big stink at this years convention. Although the scary thing is, he said “ I tell ya the one who really shocked me was Johnny Hunt, did not see that coming”
And then here’s that story linked in the OP.

So, we can all take solace in the fact that, while awful and hypocritical, our beloved SBC is still not as bad as the Catholics.
Thank goodness for that!

If the problem seems this big and they only found people already convicted it makes you wonder how hard they looked for I convicted abusers.
0 active? They got every single one already?

I can’t take that seriously with the “Survivor” every sentence. Just call her the victim like we always have.

You get downvotes without rebuttal because while people know this is a true statement, they don’t want to believe the uncomfortable truth that upsets their worldview

My thoughts are just like gun control.
The overwhelming majority of gun owners are law abiding citizens. There will always be some people who are not and will do things.
It's the same way with many many things. Drs.... How many abuse their patients? etc...
This is an attempt to smear Christianity. Same as gun owners.
These are 700 cases (I did not see any that had not already been convicted) some not even SBC.. Freewill baptist is not SBC
There are 50,000 SBC churches in the USA and you have 700 cases over 75 years.
I'm sure there are more. But.... That's the report given.
I'm not seeing where the SBC did a cover up. I see where they kept a list. Why did they keep the list? That's a question I have and would like an answer to.
Was it to keep these people away from positions?

This reads like a liberal hit piece that’s frothing at the mouth to criticize Christianity.
