Rearrange the last three letters of, Boeing, with that picture. Then, it'll be perfect.

Weird they have fenders around the power lines but not the bridge piles?

Bridges don't give kickbacks.

Maybe Ukraine will loan us some money to replace the bridge.

Ironically, most of Ukraine is safer (even at war) than, Baltimore.

Why is this on PolI board?

Because when I called at 2AM to get your advice on what board to put it on, the Bull who answered the phone said you were "tied up"

There's no way that's correct. There aren't 11.5 million people there, much less drivers, much less drivers who all drive separately, much less drivers who all drive separately across that bridge every day.

That's probably a yearly total.

Surely that figure can't be right.

That caught my attention right away.

No way

You think those fenders will stop a 200k ton mass?

8 individuals, 2 rescued, searching for 6. Supposedly all workers no pedestrian cars in water.

Confirmed power issues, confirmed ship notified officials before.

I thought the same thing.... interesting choice of priorities.... state responsible for bridge, while private company responsible for power lines? I dunno...

Agreed, however the bridge supports appear to have little protection from impact. The new Skyway bridge addressed this exact design flaw to ensure a boat cannot make contact with the bridge pilings. Massive bumpers known as dolphins built around massive rock piles would have prevented such a tragedy. It's cheaper to construct the barriers than to replace the bridge. I am curious if the ship lost steerage and/or power. I am also curious if the bow/side thrusters and anchors were deployed prior to impact. Judging from the amount of smoke seen from the stack prior to impact I suspect the captain reversed engines, because loss of steerage does not always equate to loss of power. The steerage is run from a separate hydraulic system than the engines.

Was confirmed, notified officials after losing power. Was moving at 8kts, bridge prevented pedestrian use after notification. Got lucky and the crew did what they should have.

Yeah the steering def went out, that was clear to me in the videos. Looks to me like the power went out and the steering system (hydraulics) was not operable. The hydraulic pump for steering was either powered by the generators that failed or the main motors but either way there was some kind of power failure with all of the lights going out. Could be something as simple as a power distribution breaker going bad or tripping.

I also agree the black smoke is indicative of a hard reverse but it could also be a restart of the motors if they shut down abnormally. Based on how fast the black smoke came after the power went out it was probably a hard reverse.
