Election years are wild.

That’s a textbook example of one of my biggest fears as I cross the I-10 bridge over the Mississippi River.

How does a freaking Container ship take out a bridge? Was this like a cruise ship whose deck was stacked 300 feet high with containers? Like, huh? Didn't think that was a possibility even. You'd think if it was going to hit the bridge the captain of the ship might have noticed at first...
Regardless I pray for those poor souls that were at the wrong place and time tonight. Hopefully some people involved made it....Talk about a legit worst nightmare.

It's literally a scene from final destination irl. Being in a car on a collapsing bridge over water is about as scary of a scenario one could imagine.

Baltimore to Washington traffic maybe a little backed up tomorrow so if you have to travel you may want to give yourself a 4 hours head start.
Apparently the Dali was moving at 7.9 knots after departing the Port of Baltimore when the ship struck the Key Bridge. There is belief the Cargo ship was on fire prior to it hitting the bridge.
Over 20 construction people who were working on the bridge are currently missing right now according to CBS News. No idea on the number of vehicles that went into the water.
11.5 million vehicles use the bridge every day. The Port of Baltimore is now shut down for the foreseable future.

Reports that there were around 20 construction workers on the bridge at the time it collapsed. Awful way to go.

I’m seeing a video that shows lights on the ship flickering prior to hitting the bridge which I’m sure would support this. For some reason the platform with the video won’t link here. I’m sure it’ll be on Twitter soon.

The Port of Baltimore is the largest roll-on, roll-off port in the United States. This will create a bit of chaos for car imports/exports.

I wonder if the captain of that ship was a diversity hire

Damn. On top of the immediate loss of life, this is a MASSIVE economic event for the local area and its effects will be felt throughout the eastern US.

That scene sums up Baltimore pretty well.

Yet another transportation calamity.
But rest assured, mayor Pete is on the job!
As soon as he gets back from Spring Break.
11.5 million vehicles use the bridge every day
An absurd number, but that is now reduced to 0 for the foreseeable future.

Another piece of our infrastructure crumbles like a house of cards while our leaders send more money to Ukraine. I don’t think a ship would make a structurally sound bridge crumble down in it’s entirety.

Well, looks like 3yrs of infrastructure money didn't really do anything.
