There is no honest way to describe tariffs as anything other than inflationary. Tariffs are a tax that will raise costs on the US consumer.

They make no economic sense when applied to goods that we do not produce domestically

Are we back to pretending there were no tariffs in Trumps first term?

Why would you take a chance on some inflation you don’t even know? Biden’s inflation is available, vote Kamala.

So Indefatigable, tell the board who you're voting for. If Harris, I would hope you could put enough time and energy explaining why her approach would be th best.

Good concept. I would love it. Do it.

1. No income tax = Americans have more money to spend.
2. Tariffs raised significantly at an amount equal to lost income tax.
3. Foreign goods will cost more.
4. Therefore, Americans spend their new extra money on American-made products which are now competitively priced.
5. More American factories and production needed to meet increased domestic demand.
6: American economy booms at expense of foreign economies.
7. Trickle down significant benefit to state and local governments due to increased sales tax revenue.

Look at what's happening with immigration. Illegals being imported to do no-skill labor for cheap wages.

If we add tariffs to bring more low-skill/no-skill jobs to the US, these companies will just want to import more Haitians to fill those jobs. If we're not producing the products here anymore, fine. Don't raise tariffs (lower cost for consumers) and less bullshite jobs here in the US (like Topre hiring illegals).

No-skill labor will continue to be done by foreigners---so let it be done on their soil. I sure as shite don't want them here.

No one wants those jobs in the US anyway.

Wrong. All of the chicken processing plants that got raided and sanctioned for hiring illegals went back to hiring Americans. It worked. Chicken is still the cheapest meat. All the chicken plants should be raided like that, imo.

And for closer to home, look at places like Howard Industries out of the Hattiesburg, MS area. They have in-house manufacturing, hiring 100% legal US citizens, and they are still competitive in the electrical power transformer and medical device industries.

The idea that we have to move jobs overseas for cheaper labor is a fallacy. The real problem is potential workers getting paid to not work by big daddy gov and unions demanding that low skilled workers get salaries far above what they are worth.

I would say that.. They at least have a possibility of economic sense vs throwing dollars into the economy and creating inflation. A tariff at least creates decisions is it worth it to make my product overseas? Is the foreign govt going to subsidies the tariff amount to keep my product being manufactured there ?

To me there is no doubt that printing money and tariffs are painful for the middle class in the near term. ...but the question is how long is that near term for tariffs..vs the political election cycle

Make cheap Chinese consumer goods more expensive, and we'll just be buying them from Vietnam or India or Mexico. The jobs aren't coming back. No one wants those jobs in the US anyway.

Are there things we can bring back in vital industries, absolutely. But that will come on the domestic investment side, not in punitive measures abroad. Those industries will just choose a cheaper foreign alternative.
not counting Covid the labor participation rate, near 62%, hasn't been this low since the Carter era.

And just because Biden wants us to pay for overpriced, useless degrees doesn't mean that is a skilled workforce.

Why go work those jobs when you can live off the government, but that's how they stay in power and keep their votes. Instead of expanding the welfare program how about expanding our economy by making goods domestically and force azy motherfrickers to go work

I think you're missing the point about why Trump's tariffs were put in place. It's to encourage domestic production and decrease reliance on foreign adversaries.

Trump's "great idea" is universal baseline tariffs. That is tariffs on all imports. Tariffs on coffee, tea, rubber, cocoa etc. How do you encourage domestic production on those imports?

The word is “automation.”

If fast food can be streamlined, then most other low wage jobs can be as well.

Plus, there are millions of illegals here now.

Haitians work for minimum wage. Just ask Ohio.

Oh, I don't think he's voting Harris. I suspect he's casting an imaginary vote for the perfect candidate. Or, maybe "Libertarian".
