Being able to hit what your shooting at. You could have the best setup possible with birds all over but if you can't hit shite then all else doesn't really matter

Placing corn where the ducks can find it but greenjeans cant

This. I missed > 10 birds last season. Gonna practice up on my draw/aim this year.

Hard work and patients. Pretty much anyone that I feel is a more successful hunter than me (deer, ducks, turkey) seems to all have more patients than me and work harder at it.
They don't use weather as an excuse. They scout when I sleep after a hunt. They work on blinds/stands when I go fishing in the summer. They can sit 45 min without calling with a gobler just over a ridge. It's not magic

Lots of birds usually fly over when I stand up to have a piss or refill my coffee. So I would say those are the two second most important factors.

Management of the paripatetic 8 yr-old boy that is usually sitting, or squirming, next to me.

Wait, you're saying you need feed AND ducks?

Weather and being able to hunt the fronts. God I hate work during the fall/winter...

Interesting replies so far. Seems that of the things I can control, concealment and being still are the most important things.
I find it funny that no one mentioned decoy placement or calling when those are the two things most heavily marketed to hunters and probably the two things the most money is spent on (outside of land obviously).
Things like feed and weather aren't within my control usually as my hunting opportunities tend to be dictated by available time on the weekend and available public land.

Every year I find myself wanting to find a job that is dormant during hunting season. Thinking about going back into the "turf management" profession.

My take, Just enjoy the sun rise, birds flying. Even if I don't shoot, just being out there is a win win. But really, blinding out. People build those hotel binds that stick out like a sore thumb. One has to adjust to the season.

I'll throw my vote in for good shooting.

Concealment of yourself

Sound like a duck. Don't try to sound like Eli Haydel or Rick Dunn. Listen to real ducks. Doesn't matter if it's in the duck woods or at a park somewhere. Very few times do I hear 7-10 note cadence from a suzy just sitting on the water. Most time is a 3 or 4 note call that is fast and raspy. To me, it almost makes a popping sound. Short quick burst seem to be the trick, at least in the timber. May sound odd up close but sounds realistic as hell from a small distance.
To me, cut down style calls mimic that sound of an old raspy hen sitting on the water closer that the traditional double reed type calls we all grew up with. JMO of course

Surprisingly, the followup video explains it best. Good to see Haydel jump on this also since I grew up with a DR85
