I can't be the only one a bit bummed out about it. After building up the anticipation during the Trials, every 2 years we dive right into sports utopia on Saturday. The crescendo builds for 2 weeks before the final few medals on the 3rd Sunday. It's always bittersweet with the closing ceremony hanging over them. Then we all go back to our TD forum of choice after 16 days of memories.

What does everyone do during that transition? We're fortunate that football isn't far away but this is the mother of all sports events.

Get depressed, ramp up mileage, watch Diamond League, daydream about plans to go to LA 2028

My Olympics ended when the last US beach volleyball pair got eliminated...

I'm mostly joking. I'll watch Lyles win the 200 today but not having a single pair medal in beach volleyball took the wind out of my sails.

Take a breather, go on vacation and then get excited about the impending start of college football, NFL and postseason baseball.

Two Things:

1) Rewatch John Shuster's Curling Performance in 2018 on Loop.

2) Send letters to John Shuster's home.

I'll say this... the US kicked arse pretty good at this Olympics... and there was still plenty of room for improvement. LA 28 is going to be a gold rush. Bigtime.

But this transition will be easy because football is hot on the heels of the closing ceremony.

I’m a big tennis fan so there’s a bunch of that to watch the rest of the month leading up to the US Open.

In 10 days or so (I think Aug 17) the last cycling grand tour of the season takes place, La Vuelta a Espana (Tour of Spain). Cycling always delivers.

CFB is right around the corner, if you watch CFB.

Of course I do. Now the quality of the games I watch...somewhat questionable. I enjoy these 16 days because for the most part it's the one sporting event where all of America is backing the same team. (Plus it's fun watching us beat up on the world.) Even though it's putting us into a month long sports abyss, after '26 I think it's going to be a pretty quick pivot to the hype for LA28.

The World Cup is like that too. Group stage is awesome but then once you get to the knockouts it feels like it goes by in a second.

It's nothing to do with the opening ceremony because I missed it and don't care

This is the first Olympics where I didn't watch a single thing and it was completely unintentional. I hate non domestic time zones or anything outside North and South America.

Did not watch, did not care. The IOC and the various national committees are cesspools of graft and corruption.

I am curious how long Peacock will leave the replays up. There is a lot of stuff I would still like to watch but there are just so many hours in the day.

Football is the mother of all sports, but this gets us through the dog days of summer before the preseason starts… then we have big time soccer beginning again
