Jay has done a masterful job building the roster this year.
The 2026 team and result really pissed him off. Not that that's surprising to anyone. I expected him to build a monster for 2027, and it was a lot of fun to watch it unfold.

I've seen it in the past. Appears the yahoo version is limiting it to P4 schools. Which at least helps a little bit. But at this point it might as well just be B10 and SEC schools

 Colorado Springs is awesome. Sure it's a blue state, but they have a helluva lot less hood rats than New Orleans. They just have high hippies over there.

I have a 2023 ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi in it. A year out of your range, but still the same engine.
It's got 70,000 miles on it and does great. Just maintenance regularly like any other vehicles. I remember when I bought mine, it was talked up to be a very reliable engine, but some of the things inside were made a little cheaper to keep costs down. Personally I'd rather little knick knack things be wrong than an engine failure which is why I went with it.
I know multiple people with Chevy's from the same time period that complain. Guy in my office just replaced his 2019 (I think) silverado transmission for the second time.
Honestly, you're playing a bit of russian roulette with any truck nowadays. Even Toyota is having issues with reliability, however they do seem to be the most proactive about fixing issues. GM might be the worst at this. They like to do widespread special coverage programs for certain engine issues instead of a recall that fixes the components.

400 yards is too far for a 308
Depends on the game in my opinion. The 165 grain ammo I shoot should be right around you 2000 fps .
quote:
I once had a Hornady rep tell me not to shoot anything under 150 yards away with SST bullets. I found out why for myself. I had a bullet failure and almost lost a deer. Shot placement doesn't mean shite when your bullet breaks apart before it gets to the good stuff.
I do agree with this though and witnessed it last year with my dad. He was hunting with some Hornady SST bullets. Shot a doe, never found her. We assumed he missed (but he claimed he saw her buckle).
Next week he shoots a 200 pound buck quartering to him and went through the front shoulder at about 120 yards. The buck was spinning it's back legs running back into the woods because of a broken shoulder. After an hour of looking we found him despite not a drop of blood. While cleaning we found out that the bullet hit the front shoulder blade and dumped all of its energy and didn't go any further. That was the second bullet out of that box and he told my mom to go buy something completely different and bring it to him while we were cleaning it

And the guy’s been shooting $100 scopes for 20 years! You think extreme durability is at the top of his priority list all of a sudden?
 anything should be an upgrade to what I've been using. I do get downshift's point about reliability, at the same time I baby rifles. Sits in a hard case unless I'm in the stand because I can drive my truck to within 400 yards of every stand on our place. So not exactly taking it on 4 wheeler rides.
Mainly just wondering how the glass upgrades are going up to the $500 price point. I'm still undecided, but trijicon is up there on my list.

You’re the reason I started looking at the Trijicon

That’s halfway my question. I currently have a $100 sig buck master on my rifle. It does fine until I have to zoom in to max power it gets hard with eye relief.
ETA: I’ve hunted for 20 years with scopes under $100 so I don’t know what I’m missing

Looking at a new rifle scope, suggestions?

I've got a few hundred dollars burning a hole in my pocket. I think I've decided I want to get a new scope for hunting.
Budget is right around $500 or so. I hunt with a .308. For deer hunting. We hunt a lot of power lines. I'd say a majority of our shots are 100-200 yards, some more, some less.
I've looked at the Trijicon Huron, some Leopolds, and Burris online.
I've also read some of y'alls suggestions on previous threads, but I've hunted all of my life with the cheapest scopes possible. Either the cheap ones that come on a gun when you buy it, or just some $100 scope I found. Those have worked just fine and haven't caused any problems, so those who have actually spent money on scopes let me know what I've been missing

The Zachary school system wants to give the teachers a raise. They say it’s not going to raise taxes.
I've listened to Ben talk about this a few times. Are they raising taxes? No. However it's not allowing for a tax decrease that would happen without this "new tax". It effectively is a tax increase because if this gets voted no, then taxes drop.
quote:
Problem is they want to rob millions from the building fund to do it. Voters have to approve. What happens when they need to build a new school?
Their argument here is that they don't need any new buildings since they have the infrastructure to hold the student capacity they've been hovering at for quite some time now.
FWIW, I don't live in Zachary and can't vote on it, but that's basically what they superintendent has said.

Thoughts?
My thoughts are if we only have two good outfielders going into next year we likely need a third. Just because we bring in an OF doesn't mean we can't bring in an IF also.
Also if by chance Milam comes back, we no longer have major deficiencies at both 3B and 2B.
