Today I did. Scared the shite out of the car owner and me.

Same make, model and color parked next to each other. Not ideal.

Yes I have. Not thinking and on auto pilot. Similar vehicle. Could have been shot I suppose since I opened up their door.

Can't say I ever have, but I can see it happening with so many cars looking like they came off the "Cookie Cutter" assembly line where many models look not much different than others.

Yep. Walked out of the convenience store on auto-pilot and climbed in the drivers seat. I quickly realized that the truck was much dirtier and had a slightly different center console.

I do it all the time. Apparently there a a lot of grey trucks that look like a Ranger.

About 15 years ago I had to run into the grocery store for a couple of things. Wife (no pics) was driving and waited in the car. Exact same make, model, and color car parked opposite of my car while I was inside. I walked out, opened the passenger door of the other car, and was about to get in when I realized what I had done. The driver just had an absolute "what the frick" look on their face. I just said sorry, closed the door, and walked over to my car, all the while the wife (again, no pics) was laughing her arse off.

I recently did this at the golf course, guy had a truck like mine but a slightly different color.

I hoped my arse right up in the driver's seat

Then figured it out real quick.

They probably accidentally hit the down arrow by accident.

A while back I grabbed a sharpie out of the console of my 4Runner. I didnt recall it being a blue sharpie, but whatever. It was not my 4Runner and now I have 2 sharpies.

Yes, and I got in it. Sat down and felt weird. Seat was pulled way up. I started freaking out then realized it wasn't my truck.

Both same year make/model (Tacoma). My key fob worked on his truck, but his key fob did not work on mine. I was also able to start his truck with my key.

I was at the gym and knew immediately whose truck it was. Luckily the guy was cool about it. I went inside and told him what happened. We got a good laugh about it but he was clearly bothered, as was I. He went to the dealership later that day and they told him there was nothing they could do and it was a weird coincidence.

Happened to me and a buddy on a vacation in Australia. We left a club and climbed into what we thought was our car. Couldn't figure out why the key wouldn't work to start it. We figured it out when we saw all the dirty laundry in the back seat. Same make model and color as our car parked about 4 spots over.

Tried? Yes. Rental car this summer in Atlanta. I sat by the wrong make and model car for minutes trying to get key fob to open vehicle. Then flipped the manual key out and tried.

My friend's mother was brought the wrong vehicle from a hospital valet and proceeded to not only get in it but drove it home nearly 100 miles away. She thought the water bottle in the cup holder was a complimentary gift from the valet.

On vacation in a rental Kia, wife parked it, so I didn't know quite where it was. Went to get it and there was a Hyundai exactly like it except for badging. It was parked terribly. I keep hitting the key and nothing would happen. I went check out the car and start looking around. They guys whose car it was (probably another rental) came up and wanted to know what I was doing. I showed him what was happening, his key worked. Haven't felt that stupid in a very long time.

I have and I was asking myself “where this sprite can came from” before realize what I had done. Embarrassing but at least no one was around. I guess that’s the price I pay for driving a common car with a common color.

no, but one time on vacation i went to put something in my rented vehicle (sunglasses) and put it in an identical rented vehicle. we were at a food truck on the north shore of hawaii, both vehicles were unlocked...

we realized it and told the other renter when i realized it and we both had a laugh.
