After hurricane Gustav, I made a Walmart run. Loaded a whole cart of groceries into the bed of a 1997-2002 era Ford truck that looked just like mine. I didn't realize it until I went to open the door and it wouldn't unlock.

I have walked right up to one that looked just like mine and thought my remote fob’s battery had died when it didn’t open. When I grabbed the door handle and tried the handle button I saw a bag on the passenger seat then realized - not my car. Mine was an aisle over.

Yep, same truck as I had in both occasions. One was unlocked and I noticed the problem when I smelled the weed and the owner came running out. Luckily he saw my truck and put two and two together. The other time was the same truck but the key fob unlocked both. Owner came out and laughed it off as well

I've tried but my attempt to unlock didn't work. Nobody saw me and I just walked another 30 feet down the line and got in mine.

Once I purposely entered the wrong vehicle by accident.

A couple of coworkers did this in a grocery store parking lot. What are the odds a truck with the same make, model, year, color, trim package, and even back glass sticker was parked one aisle over. They both walked up to the truck at the same time chit chatting and joking around with their plate lunches from the hot bar and opened the doors. To their surprise there was a guy in the drivers seat looking at this phone with a surprised as shite look on his face. All my coworker said was "Hell, this ain't my truck." They both closed the door back and walked over to the right truck laughing about what just happened. That dude would have been cooked if it was anybody with ill intent. Two big back ole baws had him cornered.

Once we were vacationing with our aunt and uncle, so wasn't completely used to it.
I decided to go out and lay on the hood to wait while they got ready.
The actual owners were alarmed.

Yes, but not on purpose.

Crazy story.
In the late 1990s I'm with a friend who has an 89 maroon Camry. That was the most common color camry. And toyota was known for having common keys.
Went to Walmart. Get out and go to his car. Get in and drive. Was upset someone stole his tape from tape player. Then realized a few other things were missing. Then we realized that it wasn't his car. We had technically stolen a car. Torn around and the spot it was in was taken so we took his car out and put this car in. But then this time key didn't want to start car. Tried playing with it. Then Gave up and left that car blocking the parking aisle and got in his car and left. Being teens we thought police were coming. Never did.
I wonder what that person thought when they saw their car lined up to park but left in aisle.
We didn't know how to unlock shifter and didn't realize key only worked one way not the other

I've walked up to the wrong vehicle before but realized my mistake before trying to enter it. I do occasionally grab the back door handle on my pickup before realizing it will be really hard to drive from back there. I am also guilty of pointing my key fob at my house door and clicking it expecting it to unlock.

I've done it twice to the same guy's truck. I live in a small town and he drives an identical truck to mine. Once his wife was in the passenger seat and once he was in the driver's seat and I opened the back door to put groceries in. I need to put a sticker (trashy) on my back window or something.

Yes. I was riding with a friend to a gun store. When we came out I went to the passenger door of a truck that was the same color as his, and was pulling on the door handle as the actual owner walked up.

Back in the 90s, a friends girlfriend actually DROVE the wrong Toyota Corolla home after a night out in Tigerland, same car same color, keyed the same... woke up the next morning, was like WTF this is not my stuff in the car, drove it back to Sports and got her car..

At Home Depot. I always lock my doors but I might unlock it with the FOB before it’s in view. Anyway walked up to this car, opened the door and sat down. Didn’t realize my mistake until I tried to start it. Never saw the owner but he obviously left his door unlocked.

Yes, I opened the door of similar vehicle one time and saw a terrified lady looking back at me. I felt really bad.
I now click the unlock button on my keys 7-8 times to verify it's my car.
