The sickest 5 percent account for 50% of the total cost for insurance companies. That cost is passed along to the other 95%.

The occasional patient with your condition or a kid with cancer or something is the reason for insurance.
Make everyone pay out of pocket for bullshite medical expenses like car insurance. Your car insurance doesn’t pay for oil changes or new tires.

Ric Flair is right.Too many people want insurance to pay for everything health care related. If car insurance worked like health insurance oil changes would be $2000.00,Tires would be $10,000/set.Most everybody would be walking or riding bicycles because very few could afford car insurance.

FIL had $257,000 of back surgeries in 6 months. He received an $800 bill and then found he owed $0.

The Problem isn't the insurance companies or Obama Care its the Doctors,Hospitals, clinics and imaging companies charging 50% more for services billed through the insurance company over what it cost out of pocket.
Lol, you think insurance companies just pay that 50% markup? Doctors, clinics, etc can charge insurance companies whatever they want. They aren't getting anything near that rate when the check comes in the mail. People who pay out of pocket definitely pay more than insurance companies reimburse.

This. Go walk around a hospital and you would be appalled at all the patients that have COPD and eventually respiratory failure. And it really drives up costs, because they have an exacerbation, we treat them, counsel, plead them to take meds, and they end up back in the hospital a month later. The cycle continues for a year or two and then they eventually pass away. By no means am I advocating to let them suffer and die, but its part of the reason costs are high.

Then today after having been preapproved for and having my biannual CT scan after cancer treatment, I got a denial letter for the scan because Aetna's doctor decided it wasn't necessary. Stage IV cancer for which I finished treatment well under two years ago.
What a load of bullshite.
Can you threaten to sue the doctor if the cancer comes back?

My problem with this is those that just have health insurance that cover little to nothing, how would they pay?
They wouldn't pay, and the provider would pass the cost on to those who can.

My wife gets that occasionally. Her employer has a hotline to a patients advocate when the insurance company doesn't OK a treatment that her hematologist says she needs. It usually takes the patients advocate 1 phone call and it gets cleared up.
Do you know if you have a patients advocate?

quote:That has nothing to do with it. $$$$$$$$$$$ profits are the main cause, and look at other countries with free health care or ones that are much cheaper than the US. Not saying we have to have free health care but god damn there has to be some middle ground instead of charging $35 for one pill or two of aspirin.
We pay for those that don't. Same thing as car insurance.

Never knew the ot was full of progressive sissys.
Remember when insurance companies used to compete for our business? I remember.
Bc of Obama and the democrats, we only have one company writing policies for self insureds in Louisiana. Prices have sky rocketed since 2011.
It’s sad that a majority of you nerds want single payer.

It seems to me, that it's smarter not to have insurance and just go to the er in the public hospital for major things like this.
Op is paying $1400 a month in insurance with a $6200 copay.
Just pay $0 when something like this comes up, take the full brunt then bankruptcy.
Do you really need credit as a retiree?

I blame Obama AND the insurance companies for this. They ate getting record profits right now with no savings passed down.
Yes I truly believe that single payer is better. I think those countries have something we should.
Our system right now either needs a revamp or set pricing.

Lol. You realize you can only declare every 7 years?
Doctor: looks like you need to have open heart surgery.
Patient: I just declared bankruptcy last year and don’t have insurance.
Doctor: doubt you’ll make into next year in your current condition.
Patitent: I hope I can make it 5 more.
