None of those are public betterment.
Healthcare is less about making people better and more about long term treatment and money making.
The profit motive in Healthcare is taking advantage of people at their weakest.
Did Obama decide that ambulance rides should be thousands of dollars?
Did Obama decide Aspirin should cost $250 a pill?
Did Obama decide that water should be $500 a unit?

We got a EOB like that 6 years ago when my wife (no
pics) had brain surgery to repair an aneurysm. She was in the hospital for almost a week including 3 days in ICU. The bills for Dr, OR and radiology totaled right at 470k. It’s crazy the amount of money they charge. We saw her Dr on the sidelines for the Saints NFC championship game. He can definitely afford it.

Medicaid expansion certainly isn’t helping with rising healthcare costs. When the govt refuses to pay bills, guess where they have to make those losses up from.
We don’t have a perfect system. But it’s leaps and bounds ahead of socialized medicine.

I agree but just amazing how much it costs. The insurance paid everything so I wasn’t on the hook for anything out of pocket.

Well you could have saved the cost of one ticket if your wife would have died. Then you could afford a couple extra dome foams while glaring at your wife’s doctor.

Wasn’t complaining by any means. We are very fortunate that she was able to get the care that she did. I was just stating the costs of the medical care. I’m thankful for her Dr and glad he is good as he is .

Most hospitals make little to nothing on Medicaid and Medicare patients. This has a lot to do with the inflated costs for everyone else.
Even though most health systems are not for profit, they still have to expand facilities, purchase expensive equipment, give employees raises, buy software etc. These aren't static costs.

I have had an opinion for quite some time regarding the effect of Medicare/Medicaid on health service prices. I am curious about a doctors take on this.
It is my opinion that the way that the Medicare/Medicaid system determines allowable charges has driven "list" pricing up on medical services. Prices that virtually no one with insurance (and no-one who negotiates) pays. This is not done with the intent to defraud the government or clients, but in an effort to get adequate compensation when treating Medicare/Medicaid patients.
Of course, I think there has also been an influx of opportunist, in the mean time, and the embracing of borderline and outright quackery (under the guise of alternative medicine) by the federal government and now insurance companies also increases the overall money flowing through the system.
