I'm kind of thinking Haiti had major issues for the last 100 years or so. I doubt any of the stupidity the Clinton's did or didn't do involving them made much difference.

I was just being a smartass. Actually, after thinking about it for a few minutes I remember hearing a geographic explanation for this and I dont remember what it was but something makes the east end of the island more inhabitable than the west end. It seems to me that the east end would catch more hurricanes so that must not be it.

A people fighting for their own Independence & becoming only the 2nd Republic in the Western Hemisphere is a great thing right?

A White man( Napoleon)trying to re- impose slavery on on free people of color in a French overseas territory caused this brutal revolution. The subsequent worldwide embargo/ isolation / debt did Haiti no favors.

Every MLB Baseball team has their own training compound down there. They are all pretty close to each other. It’s very impressive. I’ve been to a few of them.

They take these kids out the slums and house these young kids, teach them English and educate them, teach them how to live the American life. If they don’t get picked up by a US team or sponsor by the time they are 14-16 they cut them loose.

The economy of Haiti (GDP per capita $1272) also more closely matches African countries like Nigeria, Senegal, and Ivory Coast. The Dominican Republic economy (GDP per capita $8282) is similar to countries like Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Panama.

Haiti has an average IQ of 67 while DR has an average IQ of 82. The IQ of Haiti is closer to that of these African countries while the DR matches more similarly the IQ of Central or South American countries. Costa Rica, for example has an average IQ of 87. Ivory Coast has an average IQ of 69 in comparison.

A quick glance at this data shows the correlation pretty strongly between GDP and IQ by country.

Before you yell "racist" keep in mind that low IQ can be caused by low GDP and vice versa. But the correlation is real.
