Have flown over Haiti a couple of times. Was shocked at how deforested it is.

Haiti is like Jamaica which is like central Africa (Congo). It’s a cultural thing. I’m not exactly sure how to describe it. Those societies will never progress and have no Western values to speak of.

I’d advise anyone to spend some time in Haiti or Jamaica outside the tourist resorts. Talk to those people there. It’s eye opening.

Haiti’s dictatorship wasn’t much different than places like North Korea or Cuba, but it was established under the banner of black nationalism instead of communism.

The Duvalier family’s biggest fear was a popular uprising by the people, so they cracked down on both democratic and Marxist opposition groups.

They were often left isolated from both sides during the Cold War. The Catholic Church once had a large presence in Haiti providing aid and resources to the people, but they were kicked out because they were an evil white institution.

Haiti spent much of the 20th century as a dirt poor and corrupt dictatorship without many friends, or trading partners, and no foreign investment.

Because one of the only things Haiti had going for it for a long time was timber. They cut it all down at a rapid pace. There were even reports of people trying to figure out how to cook and eat tree bark.

Went to the Dominican on vacation. Had to travel a ways to get to our destination. I don’t think they have anyone picking up the trash it was everywhere. Lots of stray dogs and horses.

Because Napoleon was involved in his own country's revolution to get bogged down in Haiti, and he didn't think it would be worth the time nor sweat to establish firm colonization,
Napoleon caused the Haitian revolution because he wanted Haiti so desperately. The French Revolutionary government had granted independence to Haiti as a slave free overseas territory , but Napoleon came back into power & attempted to re-impose slavery.

Napoleon sent his largest foreign force ever & over 90 warships & lost over 70, 000 troops along with dozens of his generals. He wanted Haiti badly & the disaster in Haiti supposedly influenced the Louisiana Purchase by the cash strapped French/Napoleon.

Haiti followed along the path of every other sub-Saharan African country.

DR followed along the path of every other Caribbean Latin American country.

The people make the nation.
