Damn Lowe’s in NOLA East was the best place to get nice plants for cheap. They had to mark them down next to nothing because not too many people in that area are concerned about their landscaping.

The East should succeed from Orleans Parish so it could set it's own tax rates to attract new businesses.

They should try again. The East has tremendous potential and they are strategically positioned with water access on both side.

No one will invest in New Orleans east and it’s really not a concern. Perhaps you’re totally clueless but there’s tons of new investments downtown. You aren’t in the know. The most since the late 60s early 70s. Nobody’s filling you in and you’re unaware. Sorry for your lack of business acumen locally

You would need to buy up chunks in the east.
the bywater and midcity have come a long way. But it takes time. And shite is expensive if you didn't get in early.

There’s no gentrification because
1.) people want ridiculous amounts of money for mediocre property.
2.) the demographics are not there. There’s more trash that would bring things down than not.

There's been a shite ton of investment in New Orleans. Not on the level of Nashville, Charlotte, etc because we don't have the job market of those cities. There's three condo buildings being built in the WHD and renovations going on in every neighborhood (outside of the East and Algiers). Agree with you on poor infrastructure though. Our streets are the closest you'll find to third world in the US.
No one wants to invest in New Orleans East because it's basically another north Baton Rouge. A lot of the Vietnamese folks in Versailles have left for the westbank and Slidell. The westbank/slidell being an upgrade should tell you how shitty the east is.

That's the issue, they should try to remove themselves because the $$$ they actually make get put back into the city, not their own area.
Imagine the tax paying $$$ in the area would go back INTO the East. Or having actual police that actually patrol/help that area. If you didn't know, the Read Station and their police are actually put in lower 9th. Imagine that, you get a call of a burglary on Bullard and the closest cop is in fricking lower 9th.
I mean there is a ton of shite and trash people (hi little woods), but there's a lot of middle class people who live in the east still. Make the area nicer, attract businesses to come, and you can lower crime too. More middle class come back and you can bloom

That’s a nice idea for a fairy tale, but the taxes if the east would break away would be a pitiful amount. Lots of low income housing, almost no hotels , no real business, and no tourism isn’t a good combo

Another issue for the East is gentrification in the rest of New Orleans. It's pushed a lot of the trash out of eastbank NOLA into Nola East and Algiers.

Some relatives I think were virtually the last white people to move out of the area. I think their house was right off Read Blvd exit.
They moved out around the late 90s I guess.
Everytime we visited, I couldn't help but think of the scene in Animal House
where the guys are driving the girls out on a date and go to that all black bar.

From the mid to late 1970's, anything pass Downman Road east started going to shite very fast. That area before that time way east was country. Was a great area. My family had a lake front camp out there and sold out due to having it broke in and ripped apart many times.

True same with Algiers Point gentrification. Its especially bad for Algiers. All of the tenants we have at our rental houses in Algiers are Section 8. It used to be lower middle to middle class people who rented for a year or two before they bought their own.
