Maybe next time you're coming back to New Orleans, get off I-10 somewhere in the East and take Chef Hwy into the city. You'll see why nobody wants to invest in the East. Its a crime and poverty ridden shithole.

Went to Nashville and Charlotte and wonders why NOLA cannot be like them.

Two new breweries coming up in The East.

Dixie and Cajun Fire.

Such a vast area with a bad reputation. There are parts that are decent, quiet and affordable. Just no real amenities.

Unfortunately, the East has devolved into a shooting gallery and a poor excuse of a shithole. Shitholes are better. It was not always that way. I grew up out there off of Crowder in the 70's and 80's and up until the late 80's it was still pretty decent.....in the early 80's the East was it. You had the Plaza, decent restaurants and stable if not growing property values Then........

In the mid 1980's the city council was able to redraw the districts and as such they thought it a good idea to lump the East with the Lower 9 and Desire. As such poor African Americans and their poverty pimp reps, gained control of the area. They started by passing out wholesale Sec. 8 certificates to anyone with a pulse and since the oil bust and Martin Marietta had moved out there became a surplus of housing stock. People Johnny Jackson, the new councilman and Jon Johnson, the State Senator began emptying Desire into the apartments along the interstate

You can guess at the results..... local grocery stores, independents started noticing an increase in shrinkage(theft). The Plaza became a dangerous place especially the parking lot at night. People started selling their homes in large numbers therefore driving the prices down. I knew a guy, a doctor, who had bought a house on a lake in the East in 1976 for 180K which was a nice price for a 4600 sq ft house at the time, put in a pool, etc, by the time he sells it in 1995 he's lucky to get 245K for it....true story

By that time there were no restaurants to speak of unless you count the fast food places and a few Chinese, the Plaza was almost deserted except for the plethora of shoe stores and places for baby clothes. The council had landed a distribution center for McFrugals right near the high rise....it "burned down" not too long after opening up....they never rebuilt

It was active neglect and degeneration throughout the area.....even the black folks who had always lived out there and were professionals were leaving.

I still hate Johnny Jackson and Jon Johnson fr what they did and don't even get me stared on the now judge Ellen Hazeur. They all were involved in th neglect that bordered on criminal.....if any of them were on fire it would be a hard decision whether to piss on them or quickly find some more fuel to add to the fire. I lost a friend to the violence out there in the early 1990's. Watched an 80 year old woman get carjacked...she got the guy good by backing her car into the Morrisson Canal. I know that today that there is but 1 grocery store in the whole part east of the Canal.

I stopped off Bullard last weekend to get gas.......i imagine that is what Tikrit looks like.

How's the hospital on the south side of the interstate doing out there.....oh wait, they never reopened after Katrina or the big grocery store across the street that used to be a big Schwegmann's..... damn forgot, ain't there no more....to be fair, John Schwegmann did more to destroy Schwegmanns than anyone else.

Because New Orleans population growth has stagnated. Invest for who?

The Vietnamese typically are not going to mess with old people out there and tend to be pretty good neighbors. I knew some of the Vietnamese out there, their kids all moved to either Slidell or married into the white world. Plus if the Vietnamese Catholic priest is good with them, they are protected
