some people care more about family than careers. Some people have good families. Others have sucky families and can't wait to get away from them.

I didn't even visit friends as much as I wanted to, or go out to bars as often as I wanted, because everything was so far away. Uber/Lyft was cheap as hell, but everything is just too far away

Family is the only reason and if the right opportunity would come up in the right location I would try to go.
There is not a lot offered by LA and the hunting and fishing is only going to get worse.

It really depends on the individual. I moved away, but that’s because there aren’t many work opportunities at home. I’m also really independent, like to travel, and don’t keep up with many of my high school or college friends.
But why move one place over another? What makes this place better than that place? Why not leave the country? The answer is different for different people.
Case in point:
Not for everyone. Maybe you have a job at your hometown bank or auto parts store or family business and have friends and family nearby. Maybe in Houston you struggle to get find a job and make friends. Depends on the person.

Exactly. Good dishes like gumbo or jambalaya can be made anywhere as long as you stick to the traditional south La way to cook them.

Not to mention any Louisiana food item you want can be obtained, you just have to pay a little extra.
We do a crawfish boil once a year, and I have andouille shipped up frequently for gumbo and jambalaya.

I would think that family has a lot to do with it. And there's nothing wrong with that. Personally, I've always had a bit of wanderlust.

LOL I know so many people who left my hometown (BR) and went to college at some out of state school only to come back and work for their parents and often times get married to someone else from their hometown.
Moving away definitely does not make one 'grow' as a person, and in some cases, it probably has negative benefits to their personality

I have lived both places, NOLA is 100x better than HTX in every regard other than public schools

Maybe it's because they are happy where they are. I've traveled extensively and despite being exposed to different places I have never felt the urge to move away. I like it here, family, friends, familiarity... For whatever reason, it's home and where I wan't to be.
