What if they believe that they are happy (meaning that's actually what they are)? What if moving away made them unhappy? We live in a country that allows you the ability to move. Freedom...it's a wonderful concept.

My family. I could earn a lot more money if I moved to a bigger city but I value my family over the extra money. I did do a stint in the army but came home as soon as my term ended.

You’re so right. The New Orleans metro is so much safer than the Houston metro. There’s so much more to do in Nola too especially for families and children. There’s so much more entertainment in Nola than HTX too.
Did I mention the job market and tax system yet? How bout general cost of living? Ahh Nola is so great. I’d live and die there but I’m not that lucky.

Well HTX is ranked 22 most dangerous city and NOLA is ranked 19, so slightly safer I guess? HTX is just as dangerous as NOLA if not more so.
There is tons to do in NOLA for families and children, although I prob wouldnt want to raise a kid there.
The job market definitely sucks in NOLA, cost of living is way cheaper than in HTX.
I am not trying to jerk off NOLA, but I would rather live in NOLA than HTX anyday by a longshot. HTX kind of sucks.

I guess people lose sight of this.
Houston is a big city with big city problems, there are over 2 million people in the city of Houston itself (I'm not talking the entire metro area).
New Orleans has a population of maybe a half million people...and is "ranked" 2 spots higher than the city of Houston.
New Orleans is a medium-ished sized city with big city problems, and they don't have the big city resources to fix them.

When I finished up at LSU, I made a B-line out of Baton Rouge and never looked back.
But that’s because I wanted to. If someone is happy where they are, why leave? I believe it’s important to travel and see new places, but relocating “just ‘cause” sounds kind of dumb.

Pretty inaccurate look at things when you consider there’s about zero new construction within the parish and businesses seem to close left and right

Left New Orleans at 18 even though I have a lot of family there. Moved to small town setting the last 40+ years. And yes, were I live, I still don't have to lock the doors at night.

Crime stats are based on per 100,000 residents
HTX has 1,095 violent crimes per 100,000 people and poverty rate of 21.9% (not sure how poverty is defined)
NOLA has 1,121 violent crimes per 100,000 people and poverty rate of 26.2%
NOLA being ranked 2 spots higher says absolutely nothing about the population size or if NOLA is better equipped to handle 'big city' problems.
FTR St. Louis is #1 on the list and has a population of 308,626
