A lot of truth to this.
It reminds me of fishing in a bayou - people on the bank typically try to cast to the opposite bank. They'd be just as successful fishing on their own bank. The grass isn't always greener, and so on and so forth.

In defense of NOLA, I lived uptown and loved being able to walk to neighborhood bars and awesome restaurants, that are small. There was also always something going on in the city. HTX didnt really have anything like that in my experience. All the bars were huge and everything very commercial.
Also hate how big HTX is. NOLA is def more manageable getting across town than HTX.

My wife and I are living away from home. The rest of our siblings aren't. It is a tad inconvenient with a 5 month old not having instant access to family members that would watch her, but otherwise I like having the space.

Family support is a big reason especially if you have kids. Grandma is a lot cheaper babysitting option then some HS kid.

My family is very important to me, and I love my hometown, but it was starting to feel kind of stale. My time in Ohio seemed like it had run its course and I felt like it was time to move on. I got a better job opportunity and took it.
I understand both sides of the coin. I have family in small town Ohio who have never left and have no desire to because they thought it was a great place to raise their kids.

Most people in Monroe have never left other than the few that went to LSU but it was like their oxygen supply was gonna run out in BR so they came right back. I know several people from here that honestly have never even left the state
