Why do people never leave the area that they grew up in?

When I say never leave I mean never move away for college. Never move for a job. Never live anywhere else.
Even if where you grew up is a nice place, I think it’s good to branch out and live somewhere else for at least a year or two to grow as a person.

I left the Westbank at 18. Never looked back.
Don't understand folks who dont wanna get out of their comfort zone.
It does suck sometimes to not be around family, but I feel like I became an independent person way quicker than some of my peers. Life comes at you quickly when you are the lone wolf

I left for a year for my first job out of college. Moved back home for family. I'm not against moving off one day but now my parents are getting older and I know that I'll never get that time back with them so we've stayed.
Everything I know is here, hunting, fishing, family, church, etc....
It is kind of scary to think about leaving all of that. I know people do all the time... just not for me and my family... at least yet. I'm getting to a point professionally that if I want to get a better job we are going to likely have to move and that hasn't been a fun conversation with my 9 year old that thinks the entire world revolves around our little South Arkansas town
Everything I know is here, hunting, fishing, family, church, etc....
It is kind of scary to think about leaving all of that. I know people do all the time... just not for me and my family... at least yet. It's not as black and white as stated above, but people's ignorance to the world around them seems to be a huge factor. They simply don't want to realize what else is there outside of their comfort zones.

This has more ramifications than moving to another city. Things can linger and there could be physical and emotional issues in a bad relationship. When moving to another city, if it doesn’t work, one can always move back to where they feel comfortable. Your analogy isn’t the best.

Because they don’t have to. Just look at Ascension Parish. There’s good blue collar and white collar jobs, plenty of shopping, great public school system, low crime, etc. So many people I grew up with simply went to P-Tech school and got an operator job in a plant. They’ve been making 6 figures since they were 20, and married their high school sweetheart and have a whole bunch of kids. Their parents live nearby, they still go to the same church, their kids go to the same schools they went to, their extended families are all still close, etc. That’s really not a bad life if you like the people and place where you grew up. The reality is that in most towns, the youth move away because they have to, because there are no jobs for them, or because they want to because they want to get away from their “controlling parents” or “small-minded people” by moving to a big city and becoming a SJW. While it may seem “sad” and “pathetic” to people who’s high school years sucked, there’s nothing inherently wrong with staying close with the buddies you grew up with and living near family.

I agree sir, I have now lived in 7 different states and a total of somewhere around 30 different towns/cities and found the experiences invaluable. I assure you that I will never have a address in Louisiana again, but most of my family are shitbags...so there's that.

Idk but I got tired of stressing thi to folks. And in Louisiana, it’s kinda disheartening to me. Ignorance and shortsightedness everywhere!

for me personally, I couldn't get out fast enough, I have friends that have never left a 5 mile radius from mama's house in their lives
