I'm sure you could sell higher tax rates in the US if you had something to show for them.

Pristine state-of-the-art airports?

Nah. Let's actively fund the invasion of our country instead.

We have crumbling infrastructure, but we'll send $15 million to another country so they can research transexual penguins.

The long days and short nights arent all that bad.

People bash the cold and dark, but thats where the happiest and most fulfilled people live.

They value their own well being over work.

They do not make work their pride and joy and have a 30 hour work week.

In addition to that, their cities are walkable and some processed foods here are outlawed there. I don't like processed foods but freedom of choice here

Yeah it can work when the population is pretty wealthy already, highly educated, etc.

If 50% or more of the population is contributing minimally or not at all in taxes...

I agree. You never hear of anything about Maine. Except for last year. But other than that it seems quiet and tranquil.

Said this on recent similar thread
- Scandinavian Countries are wealthy
- Better work-life balance
- Diets that consist of real food, not snack packs, Doritos and fast food.
- better universal education

IMO - Education, education and education.

Portland was just a cleaner and whiter Austin with seafood, but the suburbs, upstate, and headed eastward towards the White Mountains were pretty perfect.

Cape Elizabeth was probably the cleanest and most beautiful area i've ever seen in America outside of maybe Del Mar.

The point is that you are wrong when you blindly claimed where immigrants to Nordic countries came from.

It’s not just the homogenous population.

It’s that the natural resources (fish and oil) are more than enough to support the (smaller) sized total population.

It’s a wealthy country with a small population.

If America goes in the crapper - I have already worked out my immigration plan to one of those countries. My skill set is highly valued in that country and I would not have to learn the language either.

And what’s more, Nordic countries are not exactly homogeneous. Around 8 per cent of the Finnish population is foreign-born, about the same percentage as in Denmark, where 7.5 per cent is foreign. That’s not that different from countries such as France, where immigrants make up around 10 per cent of the population.

A Norwegian living in Sweden is "foreign born."

A Somali living in Sweden is also "foreign born."

Same thing! Totally.

I've been lucky to have been to Norway, Denmark and Sweden. I think over all it's a fairly simple answer (besides the women). Money. Countries with higher per capita incomes are generally happier than those with lower ones.

Second, they provide citizens with a "strong safety net", including things like universal healthcare, unemployment benefits, childcare subsidies, and other social programs. I think this sense of financial security reduces stress and worry about basic necessities, contributing to overall well-being.

Third, "Work / Life Balance". They don't bust their asses like we do in America "to get ahead". They spend more time with their families, travel etc.

Maine has actually imported a good bit of third world trash over last couple decades and its starting to cause issues, particularly in Lewiston.

The mental gymnastics of media bitches is incredible. Why can’t people just accept that we like to be around other folks who share a similar background and upbringing.

Read that America fell out of the top 20 in happiness index.

Interestingly if they only polled Americans over the age of 60, America would be in the top 10.

If they only poll adults under the age of 35, American wouldn't be in the top 60 countries with regard to happiness.
