Why do people in New Orleans mispronounce the word “almond”

The word is pronounced ALL-mund. Like the Allman Brothers.
But people down here say it with a short A…. AL-mund. Like Al Bundy.
I’m not lying. They do this. And they think it’s normal. I don’t know what to do, but I’m close to killing myself over it.

They (we) mispronounce the city’s name.

The L is definitely not silent. The OP is correct. It's all-mund. At least to the rest of America. I realize you coonasses have Frenched up everything

Recently met a Texan saying “pray” leen instead of “prawl” leen. We had a fun debate about it. I didn’t realize anyone pronounced it that way.

To the dumbass who downvoted me, you literally have the means at your finger tips to look up the pronunciation online. Google spells it out for you and even has a handy little button you can click on there that will sound it for you audibly, so you can hear just how wrong you are.

Uhhh....because the word IS pronounced "pray-line."

French don't do a back of the throat L like All. They keep the L to the front like in Bail. Basically, they say the letter.
