Gotta be Elvis, he was the youngest and still very popular. MJ is MJ, but, he had a lot of mileage on him. Prince was on the very back end of his career. Dolly is a legend, but she lived a full fruitful life.

Cobain got the most mileage. Nirvana was trash but then he died and they were an all-time great.

She was also sick recently so it didn't come out of left field.

MJ was somewhat predictable because of his demons, similar to Whitney.

Prince was unexpected.

Elvis was before my time.

Elvis was still doing shows. He didnt look healthy because he had put on pounds, but he had his show costumes upsized to fit him.
I had just gone to Houston and barely knew the people in the office. I remember how fast the news spread that afternoon.

Michael Jackson didn't look heatthy either, but most folks I knew weren't as personally invested in his songs.

So, who do we sing along with: Elvis. Then Dolly.

I was two years old when it happened but it has to be Elvis. Even years after people still talked about what a loss it was.

I think people were sad when MJ died, but a lot of folks also felt a little relief. The stories were emerging and a large swath of the population couldnt just look away anymore and had to make a decision on how they felt about a major part of their lives.
