Considering he was assassinated and Dolly died of natural causes at 80, I agree.

Elvis of those 4. 1977. Media was not what it is now. Unless you saw him at a show you had no idea he was fat and unhealthy looking. Not sure how much common knowledge his drug use was.
John Lennon. Is my answer. 1980. He was making music again. He played with George Harrison and Clapton. Probably enough to tease fans about playing with Paul again which would tease a reunion. Then shot dead on a damned Monday. Only 10 or so years after they broke up. Fans had to be devastated.

Dimebag Darrell getting killed was pretty shocking. You mentioned Chester, can't bring him up without Chris Cornell. Neil Peart's death was heartbreaking when the pandemic was kicking off. That faded quick when Kobe crashed.

Elvis had a huge turnout. I was a kid an remember a friend's older sister and her friend crying over the death of Buddy Holly. For me, Tom Petty had an impact.

A lot has been made of Elvis gaining weight late in his life, but what a lot of people don’t know is a lot of that weight was because he was in the final stages of congestive heart failure. When you reach the final stages of CHF, your organs begin to fail, including your kidneys, because the heart can’t supply a sufficient amount of blood to them. A result of this is rapid weight gain because your body starts retaining fluids.
I made it to the final stages of CHF before my open-heart surgeries in 2016. My heart failure though was due to a faulty mitral valve, so getting an artificial valve saved my life and allowed me to recover to a (mostly) normal life. I know what someone looks like when they’re in that shape. If you look at Elvis in his last days, you can see it.
That’s him in 1977 just weeks before he died.
His color is terrible. He’s pale, and his face is swollen.
Here is is in December 1976, only 8 months before he died…
His heart didn’t fail because he got fat, he got fat because his heart failed.
