anyone who was alive in august 1977 knows this is the correct answer

If you didn't witness it you really can't imagine how much his death affected the country. It was everywhere all the time, and it took months to subside.

The world had such a lower information density. His death and Dolly's death remind me of the bicentennial vs the semiquincentennial. The first ones were everywhere all the time, the second pairing, while big, was a murmur compared to a year-long Metallica concert.

I remember my momma crying her eyes out watching his funeral procession on TV. It stuck out to me that the hurst was white. I’d never seen a white hurst before. I thought all of them were black. But that’s the dumb things 7 year olds think.

Neil Peart's death was heartbreaking when the pandemic was kicking off. That faded quick when Kobe crashed.

John Prine passed during that time, too. He's one that really got me.

Dimebag's death was just so, so shocking. A younger person being murdered like that will always hit different.

I think people were sad when MJ died,
There wasn't decades of debates on whether or not MJ was still alive. fricking movies embraced that shite with Elvis. People from all over the world still flock to Graceland every year. Let that sink in.

I was seven when Elvis died, and I remember everything about it when I found out.

Elvis, just because of his age. People knew MJ was having some issues. I don’t think people knew as much about Prince’s health struggles. And although he wasn’t old he also wasn’t a young man at 57. Dolly had a full life so is different from the others listed.

Elvis.

Barely in his 40s and still in his prime.

He got fat for a short period of time but lost a ton of weight and was ready to go again.

Then he died.

What are you talking about? He didn’t lose any weight before he died.
