re: When writing, do you put a dash (-) through your 7's, 0's, and/or Z's?

I used to put a dash through 7 when I was younger, for some reason that habit faded
Was it French class? That's why I did it. Gave up sometime in high school though.

Sevens and ‘Z’s’ yes. Zeroes, no

Both seven and zeds.

No. Ain't got time for all that. I write fast like a doctor.

2's have a straight bottom instead of a loop
One of my handwriting quirks is rotating randomly between flat and loop on 2s. No rhyme or reason to it, just happens. Also have a proclivity to write some letters in cursive over print also at random.

All three. Habit carried over from years back when we did hand written notes in the plant.

Dash through 7 and Z
Only dash 0 if I'm copying down a code that has both letters and numbers.
I lived in Italy for years and most will read 1 if it's a 7 without a dash.

Yes, taught in the service to combat horrible handwriting.

Who the hell writes anymore?

Only when I want to look pretentious.

I do it for 7s and Zs, mainly because my penmanship is atrocious, and it makes it easier for people to read.
Back when I was working at Blockbuster Video, this old man asked me to write down his account number. I write it down and give it to him, and he freaks out because I put slashes in my 7s.
"Only a Spaniard writes his 7s like that! You're a Spaniard! You think people wouldn't notice, but I did!"
Then he left.
Not sure what he had against Spaniards.

Only zeros when they are included in alphanumeric code.
Besides that my penmanship is legible enough.

With handwriting like mine, I need the dashes to keep from confusing 7 with 1, 0 with O, and I just think z looks cool with the dash.

Yes, through 7's and Z's, not 0's.
Posted on 10/29/26 at 2:44 pm to The Mick
Yes for both because my handwriting is terrible and it helps myself and others out.

dash the 7 to differentiate from my open 2's
what does this mean? There's only one way to write the number 2 and it doesn't look anything like a 7.
I don't put dashes on anything, but I could see where on a zero it could be helpful if there are a mix of letters and numbers like a VIN number.
